Well my mare has always been sensitive footed, but lately it seems a never ending nightmare!

I have had the vet and the farrier out numerous times when she has smacked her foot larking about or done something.

Anyway, she had come sound but i rode out in walk and the stones got her, now she is pretty sore again!

I would be really interested to hear how some of you cope with a horse who only goes well on soft ground.
What do you do with your horses feet to help them walk on more than one surface?
Do you use pads? boots? anything?

Your experiences would be much appreciated, this is getting beyond with her feet, i would just like to prevent as best i can her getting sore.
She needs some cushioning of some sort, i will be chatting to the farrier next week, but would love to hear how you deal with your sensitive footed horses?

Thanks in advance

My TB was like that - got shod every 5 weeks, shoes came off willy nilly and even the thought of going anywhere other than mushy grass when a shoe came off was a drama. But, I successfully evented and BSJA'd him through very careful management of when he was out in the field, used lami blue chip as it helped hoof growth and strength and wore gel pads on his soles.

I use the vettec gel pads on my tb eventer when the ground gets harder in the summer months, as she can get a bit 'footy'. Its quite expensive, but I feel its worth it as she is obviously more comfortable (she is happier to stride out more in the dressage phase). I also use keratex once a week on her soles (when she hasn't got the vettec gel pads in) to toughen them up a bit.

When I first bought my TB he had very sensitive feet, I used 'equicasts' then on the soles I used sole guard. He was also fed biotin on a daily basis.

thanks everyone
