Seriously fed up with the rain!!!!

Is anyone else feeling really frustrated with the rain at the mo?
I haven't been able to ride for just over 2 weeks now. I can't go out until about 7pm most evenings, when my partner is home from work and can take over with the children.
9 times out of 10 it's raining so I don't get to do anything with my horses at the moment. It's really getting me down ??

Pretty sick of it too. Left mine out last night as forecast was for it to rain until midnight then be dry - it rained all night. Have put them in tonight as it’s supposed to be thunderstorms but so far nothing! I’m sure the rain will miss us now ?. Haven’t ridden all week either (but tomorrow is suppose to be nice).

Can’t believe I was wishing for rain a few months ago…….

I keep an old but perfectly serviceable bridle and a plastic saddle (that fits) for these times in the year.....

The only times I dont ride is in thick fog or when it's too dangerously icey to get out of the yard.

Could you not ride or do groundwork in the rain? I find trying to ride around the weather in winter more stressful than just riding in the weather.

I don't know about anywhere else but it's been torrential and really windy and my horses hate it, and tbh I'm not overly keen either so they have a few days off and been in overnight.

Me too! Trying to constantly judge when it’s going to rain and timing my ride perfectly is so stressful for me. It’s best for me to just accept that I’m going to get wet and ride when it’s convenient - plus I always feel better after!

Having said that, I too am fed up with the rain and cry most days ?

I suspect getting wound up now when winter has barely started will be stressful. I have just got back into horse owning in a very wet and windy place. I am getting decent rain gear, sucking up the wind and going to have the horse on a yard with a decent school.

I will pass when we have proper stormy rain and not get wound up as it won't change anything.

I am retired so I ride any time I wish. I always take note of the weather forecast inaccurate as it can be.
I rode on Monday and a local woodland pool was still empty in spite of a fair amount of rain.
On Wednesday there was a large puddle in the centre of the mud. It has a good way to go to be as full as it was in the Spring but I’m happy. We need rain albeit gentle not downpours.

Good waterproofs. Including trousers and gloves. I love my just Chaps. And crack on. Spare clothes and a sense of humour!
To be fair. There is rain and then there's the torrential stuff we have had lately.
It is much easier now I've clipped both horses so at least they are easier to dry off afterwards.

Ooo and a hot water bottle in the car for the way home.

I have a bag permanently in the car with clothes, coat, hat and shoes. Driving home sopping wet is no fun. I’m also likely to get a cold or chill.

My best purchase ever were waterproof overalls! I do all my jobs in them when it's weather like its been. I've a waterproof mac for riding it but I do need to invest in a better one

Just ride in it. Waterproof saddle cover to ride on. Waterproof trousers and jacket for you. Waterproof yard boots or wellies. Shower when you get home. We just ignore the weather and ride anyway. So much less stressful - I like a nice routine much more than I dislike getting wet!

I’ve ridden twice this week - Sunday was a lovely day and yesterday before the wind came. The horses have had one night in, but braved every other night. They have loads of grass and shelter though so aren’t fussed. It’s a bit muddy around the gateway but not too bad yet.

It's been pretty epic , roads flooded , driving to the yard dangerous at times. But as long as it's safe , then I'd just ride. Bring a change of clothes, wear a long coat to keep your saddle dry.

In a way I envy you all the rain!
We came to this region of France (east of Bordeaux) for the grass and accepted that rain would be plentiful. Not this year it ain't.
October was the warmest it has ever been with temperatures over 25° the norm and only 8mm of rain. Indoors, without any heating, the temperature never fell below 20° at night.

. The grass is dead after the summer drought and has not revived. The weeds have even stagnated. There was also a refinery strike which led to a jerrican filling ban so our tractor could not be filled with fuel as there is no handy filling station to take it to so everywhere looks a mess as well..
Yesterday we had a 20 minute storm , much good that will do, I don't think.

I don't mind the riding in gentle rain but the stuff we have had here lately has been torrential, along with the winds. Riding in it is an accident waiting to happen!
I've read that the temperatures are going to drop next week so I'm hoping that means dryer days so I can get my bum back in the saddle in the evenings ?

This - if we only rode in good weather, we'd barely ride! I'm quite grateful for the rain, we had nothing from June -September, the trees and reserviors desperately need it.

It's not been too wet here but it has been very, very windy. I'll ride in winds up to about 25mph but its been 40 to 50 mph most days.

Yesterday was one of those very rare lovely still, sunny autumn days. Lovely again today but we had a frost first thing.

My supposedly hardy Fell pony hates the rain. We end up coming home sideways so he can keep his backside to the wind and rain. ?

I remember three or four years ago when it rained literally non stop for 4 months. It was dreadful.

The weather in this country seems to have gone to pot. Feels like we're just going from one extreme to the other. We apparently still need the rain as we've had less than average rain fall for the year and the reservoirs etc are still low but as far as I'm concerned it feels like we're in danger of being washed away!

I think it's my fault though - I admit to having put the animals in the one field without a field shelter and ever since then the weather has been abysmal. Will look to move them soon to try and save us all but the Rhino LW deserves a mention for keeping him completely dry through every storm and downpour.

I think its my fault - every time I turn up at the horses the heavens open. it doesn't seem to matter what time of day I go it starts within a few minutes of me getting out of the car (and usually stops once my knickers are wet). I've got a row of sodden/dripping coats hanging in the feed room drying.

We do need some rain, but the downpours we have had have not soaked into the ground, instead its just washing away the surface.

i was on my way back from east yorkshire the other week and went past a few reservoirs and couldnt believe how low they were. We certainly do still need more rain.

My fields are damp on top, but definitely still firm underneath the greasy bit.
I can cope and ride in the rain, but not strong wind and rain. That takes the fun out of it for me.

Seriously regretting not riding earlier in the week, when it was nice. I was so tired, though and don't feel safe on a horse when I'm dog tired. Since then it's either pished it down (and I've been unprepared and needing to go to work after) or I haven't slept and been dog tired again. Cheers menopause...

I keep reminding myself how desperate we were for rain back in the summer, and so far that seems to be keeping me in good spirits. Plus the rain is doing a good job of keeping the water trough topped up, after the summer weather dried up the man-made lake that feeds the troughs. Saving me from having to barrow the water down to the field.

Ask me again once I've fallen over in the mud/lost a welly to said mud, probably change my answer then.

i just get on with it.

schooled the 4yo in it Monday, hacked in absolute sideways wind and rain wed (also the 4yo) and because he has always been ridden in any weather since backing he just knuckled down and cracked on.

with a full time job, another part time job teaching and riding for other people, if i only rode mine in nice weather id never ride!

i wont ride im hail or sleet and dont hack on icy roads but otherwise i take whatever i get given.
