Some of you may be happy to know this will be the last training video for a few weeks. Next week is an of week for Armas just hacking and fun stuff for us both.
I am then of on holiday for a few weeks.
Todays session carried on in the same vein as yesterdays work.

*snort* well seeing as I am honoured with a change of viewing angle I better reply! :p
(was worth it - completely different view of the exercise :p)

Personally I thought there was a lot of good work in this session. The canter at the start was looking really positive. I liked how he responded to the on and back, and the half halts - much much softer than yesterday and the expression was coming back into the canter too :)

And what a change from yesterday on the travers/working piros work. They were so much more together. Did have a giggle at the 'not btv, his head is up' comment as he was really quite against the rein but hey ho, he will swap and change about as he works out what to do. And he was really waiting for her today - she chucked the contact away quite a few times and he stayed in his rhythm, softened and got on with it.

A good point for him to have a little break for a bit :) what a nice point to end on. I bet she was getting a good feel at times today.

He looked good today - smoother, softer, looser, less tentative in the contact, and his response to and acceptance of her aids continues to improve. A lovely note to finish on for his mini break :)

ETA: MP, I read your comment after posting - great minds :p

I hope you did not snort out wine over your PC. A change of position / angle is never a bad thing :o

Very positive work today I was very happy.

Won't have chance to watch until tomorrow as a film just going on but have fun next week and hope you have a good holiday xx

So you should be - All the best for when you get back on schooling him, it would be lovely to see some comp reports :)

Thank you very much. Thats a may be !

No worries and thank you.

We are now of for a hack :)

Interesting the lack of comments when a session is for the most part positive curious !

I don't reply about schooling as not qualified, just love your boy. My Spanish mare and I are 95% hackers so any discussion about that, I'm in! Shame it's not so easy to film the joys of riding in the countryside, I'd love to see your area.

Hi,
I have not watched for a bit so had a look today...
WOW :)
His trot is lovely and soft and elastic...he has 'schwung' and looks wonderful....ok sometimes btv...but so much less and will obviously get less.
Just his canter next as he is very clever at bunching together...norty boy...and you will be out competing.
Well done to both.....happy hacking and holidays.
Best wishes
Bryndu

Its beautiful miles and miles of tracks and forest just a bit flat.

Its a work in progression that is developing nicely.

James - it's comments like this that puts people's backs up . . . just saying.

I, for one, still feel your boy would benefit from a different trainer . . . but you won't take that on board. Armas is beautiful . . . and the videos of him at liberty show what lovely movement and potential he has . . . but in Virginie I see a rider who is quite braced through her upper body (watch how far her elbows come back behind her back) and not always (or often enough) quick enough to read when he is offering a stretch down and out. She is undoubtedly a good, effective rider . . . but I still don't believe that she is the right rider for Armas.

Have a wonderful holiday.

I have only just had time to sit and watch the video, I did not want to do you the disservice of commenting without doing so :)

I can see why you think there is improvement, I still do not think he is doing anything well and I still do not think that the destination will be worth the journey he has had for all the reasons I have mentioned before.

Most likely the lack of comments is because we have all said everything that needs to be said.

A lot of us think the rider doesn't suit. So basically while this is the rider on Armas a lot of the comments will be the same.

to me there's little to no improvement. the difference between him running in the field is a world away from this video he doesn't even look like the same horse.

I suspect the people who don't like/agree with the how the trainer does things have just got bored of repeating themselves. I still find her to be a heavy handed, bracey rider and I remain unconvinced that she rides your horse in a way that's conducive to his long term soundness, but hey ho.....

I don't actually see much in that session that is much different to the others, although I only flick through them.

May I ask why you are leaving the sessions while you go away? Its not like you are riding. I think that this horse would be better with one or two sessions a week all the time rather than five or six sessions a week for a few weeks then a break, then a change of rider, then another intensive period, then another break. Doesn't seem the most constructive way to school a horse to me.

Although I don't love this girl's riding, I am very jealous of her core strength and am impressed with her tolerance to having her sessions posted on a forum and criticised regularly. Very tough cookie. Or cocksure.

As I have said on one of the earlier threads, it would be really interesting to see this horse do a competition and see the judge's comments.

I am not leaving the sessions. Next week is just hacking and fun stuff then will continue his training whilst I am away.

Armas is a lovely horse but he lacks natural ability for dressage and is struggling. The 'collected' work is totally inappropriate for his level of training and it is counter-productive to be pushing him to do higher moves which are hardly recognisable as such because of their complete lack of engagement - there is a point to the scales of training. He is heavy on the forehand for most of his work and unable to carry his weight behind, aside from attempts at collection where he just tucks his nose in and up and becomes BTV, neither of which are good positions for him to be in. Developing top line to work properly takes about 2 years so he should be working with a more long term goal in mind at establishing the basics (if a horse cannot do a 10m circle in canter there is no point attempting canter pirouettes!).

He seems to love his jumping and he is a good hack, so why not do more of what he likes doing and is good at?
