BBC Scotland has reported that after a call from a concerned member of the public, several dead horses were discovered on a farm in Aberdeenshire. 25 surviving stallions, pregnant mares and foals allegedly in various states of neglect have been removed by WWF, with a report being sent to the Procurator Fiscal.

Oh no !!

That is awful

Don't understand how anyone can let an animal get into that state

MAINS of GREENS is the place concerned. Fyvie /Turriff area (allegedly.) This WELSH person also puppy farms little dogs too , so I HOPE someone official has picked this up too.
all Alleged information, but belived to be true.
It's not a stud farm, it's a place where animals have been left in a feral condition and left to interbreed. Poor, poor animals. I hope this person gets HER comeuppance.

Yeah, apparently they're Shih-Tzu breeders too - hate to think what state the dogs are in when looking at the horses. I cant believe that this was going on about 40 mins drive from me. Sickening, totally sickening. The couple are named as: VALERIE and LES PRITCHARD at Mains of Greens. I've never heard of them. The woman was quoted as saying "She claimed that the dead horses had not starved, but had been killed by other horses, which had “bullied” them in the fields around their home." - WTF?!?!?!

She most certainly is! I know of her. What an absolute shame. I could say more but obviously can't on a public forum.

Persecuted?? Give me a break!! How can you not know the exact amount of dead horses in your barn?

I am so angry.

Poor babies! Patty probably has some photos that she took at the farm that proves their innocence though. Anyway, they probably arrived like that and have only been there a couple of days!!

Absolutely sickening!!

This person Val Pritchard has been in the eye of the ILPH AND THE SSPCA for many years. The horses have been there a very long time. This is the same scenario as the AMERSHAM horror story with Jamie Gray. This person has been puppy farming too for a long time.

Not close enough, really, I'd say. What would it have taken for someone from either of these charities to go in and have a look round? I just don't get it...

That is just the problem with RSPCA and other welfare charities, they dont have the power to go in and have a look around!!!! Think you have to have a police warrant to do that.

They have more powers than they used to have. This person has threatened the welfare societies with a gun before now. They have been trying to get her for years. Unless a member of the public alerts them to a situation, how are they going to know what is going on? I know of someone, a member of the public, who also has horses, who knew about this situation quite some time ago and did NOTHING. ! We should all stick our heads above the parapet and report cruelty and neglect, if we know of it, instead of looking the other way.

I grew up and my mum still lives about 3mins away from that farm! I went to primary school at New Deer and could cycle to Greens. I cant believe something like that has happened so close to home.

When I was 15 (6yrs ago) I did work experience for a woman who lived very close to that farm and she hated the couple who owned it. Said that they didnt look after their horses very well. Unfortunately its hard to see the horses from the road and the farm is set back from the roadside too.

I'm sure patty will be along soon to explain that this is perfectly reasonable & they are just being bullied by the SPCA et al

Patty will do no such thing because Patty knows SFA about the case.

I could not agree more.

Yea such a plausible excuse!!Why do people(use the term loosly) use such stupid excuses! If your going to come up with an excuse at least make it believable!!Tho lord knows WHAT excuse you could give for letting animals getting into that state!!!
Hopefully they'll get there commupence.
Hope the community ostrasizes(?sp) them as well !!

LOL! Now I know they are WELSH they must be guilty!
grin.gif

All I know about the WELSH is they nick cars, burn down cottages and speak with a funny accent...
grin.gif

Apologies to all welsh people. I honestly dont mean this. Just pointing out a prejudice. Again! LOL!

Does anyone else get a feeling of dejavue?

The article in the P&J is exactly the same as the article on WHW. The exception is that the WHW article starts with reference to the Amersham case and says the Aberdeenshire one bears a 'gruesome similarity'.
The comments are just unbelievable. How anyone could excuse leaving corpses rotting and a stillborn foal lying where it fell is beyond me. They also said they were feeding the Horses plenty......with a condition score of 1 I'd love to know with what? Fresh air? Lets just hope justice is done. All the Horses are at Belwade and responding well. It is a lovely place down there.

Apologies to Scotty77 if you were commenting about a misrepresentation in the press or a comment on here. I realised you may have been but it was too late to edit

Nevertheless, nationality is not really important.

Can't think of words to say about this. Thought the amersham stuff was more of a one off.

Doesn't matter how much you feed a horse with a heavy worm burden, its not going to thrive, is it?..

Some of the ponies in the video look not too bad, maybe these were the ones that members of the public could see.

absolutely disgusting - they have apparently been reported and investigated many times but as they has some form of feed and water there was nothing could be done.

Heard the guy tried to hang himself when the vets were there -(& they saved him??) probably planning on pleading insanity!
