Not quite the same as it's just one person not a group but I'm very fond of Muddy Mayhem on Facebook - a very honest, self deprecating account of eventing, horse ownership and life in general. She always seems to sum up exactly what I feel / think about things and does it in a very entertaining way.

i left because i got sick to death of riders presenting sore, sour horses badly and crooked to the fences then blaming the horses every single time.

i found a lot of bad horsemanship being paraded and if you didnt laugh you got abuse.

I haven’t seen anyone blaming their horse as such (but that doesn’t mean it’s not going on!)

What they said!
The odd miss happens to the best and certainly I have no issue with an embarrassed giggle about it.

But ongoing mishaps with uncomfortable looking horses. Nothing to be proud of.

I haven’t seen any repeat offenders, maybe I will take more notice.

I absolutely love MM too. I am proud to say I egged her on to start the page. :-D

Exactly this. No thought on improvement or hands up going I was shit. I appreciate we need to not be so hard on ourselves but some of the videos make me really uncomfortable.

But it’s ALL hands up saying I was sh!t!
That’s literally all it is?

when i was a member literally every post was saying " look at my *insert expletive* horse cocking up XYZ" and anything misbehaving was naughty..............when 99.9% were badly ridden, badly presented and NQR on 1 or more legs.

turned my stomach so left.

maybe its changed....

The group are aware of this thread now, as many of us HHOers joined it after reading about it on here.

One of the admins posted ‘Interesting that the 2 people complaining are the 2 that I kicked out the group for their “constructive criticism!” ?‘

Well it’s not me!
I read it for a bit ages ago but never wasted my time commenting. Let’s hope it’s improved a bit since ...

I’ve only just seen it as a result of this thread and so far haven’t seen anything I’d describe as abusive or even derogatory towards the horses. Agree the horse that went straight through the hedge rather than over it was hilarious ?.

I can’t believe there is a single person that hasn’t cocked up an approach or ridden badly at some point in their lives. There used to be a thread on here with people posting their “whoops” moments but I don’t recall any nastiness.

Was there another group before this one? I'm sure I joined then left a similar one a couple of years ago because there was a lot of horse-blaming going on and I didn't like it. But it was while I was still in Cumbria I'm sure because it was a lass on the yard there that talked about it. The current group only seems to be a year old.

I haven’t seen any horse blaming on the posts that I have seen, just riders blaming themselves.

If my OH had kept on taking photos, I could have added an old pic of my own. My late saintly cob (he who recently had his pic in H&H modelling an old NZ rug) was jumping out of his skin one day at a RC clinic. We sailed over everything we tackled.

We cleared this parallel with ease, which was as big as anything we’d jumped before (I am not brave). Then I rashly decided to carry on and take on the larger jump alongside it - this did not end well. Cob wisely decided that it was rather too big and slammed on the brakes, leaving me sprawled over the rails.

Both ’ouch’ and ‘pride comes before a fall’ come to mind. Sadly no photo, though.

I haven't seen posts, in the current group, of the level of horse blaming that made me uncomfortable when I was previously following either that group or a similar one. If it is the same group as I'm thinking of the tone of the group has changed for the better. But I don't think it is because it's only a year old and it was definitely more than a year ago that I was following something similar.

If Admin aimed at me I didnt post or like a single thing on the page and I left the group of my own accord.

Given the posts by others who arent fans of it looks like the admin is telling porkies!

There’s been a big influx of new posters into the FB group since I joined, which was only three days ago. I am not enjoying watching many of these new photos and videos, so I have unfollowed the group.

I’ve noticed that and some are not great it has to be said. There’s a difference between a whoops moment or just being inexperienced to completely overfacing your horse with some stupidly high jump.
