So I must admit I am one who is a big fan of tidy manes but am also very much do as I say, not as I do.

Am wondering what hairstyles your horses are sporting, mine has finally grown to a fairly even length and is lovely and thick atm. I'm surprised at how easy to keep it is - brush through once a day and its detangled, thick and soft. None of the stress of pulling and thinning either and B is now happier with round his ears being brushed and looked at.

Goal for this year is to keep it conditioned and finally get it washed thoroughly :D

I'm so fed up with B's mane, it's coming off on Sunday!! So won't have much to share ;)

He's grey and a mud-monster - it's disgusting, discoloured, unruly and beyond help so just going to shave it all off and start again. Good riddance!

What lovely locks your boy has!

Can't share my boy's ... it's a complete mess and I refuse to even take a picture of it. He rubbed a big chunk of it out a few months ago, and it is growing back, but not worthy of a pic at the mo. (He's a highland, and ought to have a nice, long mane) ... OP, I'm jealous. Would love my boy to have a mane like that.

How about Ramazon's mane...

:)

I am incredibly jealous! can't imagine how long that took!
How do you keep the curl in it? I am in awe :O

OP, how is his forelock now after the scissor mishap with your mum?

Forelock is quite a bit shorter than the rest of his mane, did try and have a go with thinners to give it a bit more shape but didn't get very far. Now it's grown out a bit it's not so bad and I can tuck a bit of mane into his forelock so it doesn't look quite so much like he's growing out a pudding bowl.

Does that count? I've gone for the "thug" (skinhead) style

He is stunning! I do love a very smart hog, it really suits him.
Think he is more of a punk than a thug :)

My veteran boy, his mane was making him too hot and he'd got some rubbed out bits, so off it came! I think it makes him look younger!

I do like a long mane, but not the maintenance that comes with it I'm afraid!
(This was all done with scissors and a solo comb, before anyone thinks I'm a rotter for pulling it to that extreme!)

Ah we keep him plaited. Because it's so long he gets straw, hay, mud and all sorts in it. So it's plaited down into about 5 plaits, covered in pig oil to stop it getting itchy, and we re-plait once a week or more if we get time. Unfortunately his last plait by his withers is no longer, he rubbed it off at the end of summer when it got midgy :( but when it's down you can't really notice!

this is Moses before he rubbed most of it out on a tree, he was fenced away from the tree but was walking under the electric strand to get to his favorite branch! it is just starting to come back through this thick.

This was the 'orrible ratty straggly mane at the start of last summer...not looking very Andalusian like so I got very close to trimming it short.

But after a good tidy, plaiting it when ridden and using hair oil on it (sssshhhhhh, don't tell my hairdresser!) this was it in November.

It's now a bit longer and rug has affected the bit near his wither so he'll get another tidy in spring. But I'm really impressed at how it improved!

Well.. His mane is slowly growing back after loosing most of it through the summer , it kind of went in between a hog and a really short moheekan! I liked it and he suited it . Irish draught x so had the kneck for it. But his forelock is a whole nother level !! It had gone reeelly long, so I took a scissors to it ( with plans to then pull it to finish it off) but I love it !! And he looks suppper cute !! He's only five and had winter off so we aren't going anywhere at the momemt, but Im hoping to bring him back into work in next couple off weeks so I will fix it , but not just yet......😀😊

My last horse Holly had a Mohawk in summer, so I kept it fairly short. Length didn't matter as soon as the sun came out- ping the mane went up. No relation to wearing a neck cover either. It was also much thicker in the middle so I had to pull the middle and cut the top and bottom to keep the length and thickness the same.

New girl Lola has a lovely tidy mane. Just a quick trim every now and then and voila. Lovely thickness lies perfectly flat - easy

Don't think I could cope with a full length mane. Thank god I like WB's

I prefer this. Yes - takes years off him. Smart as a carrot :-)

Drooling at all the nice, calm manes on here. My boy's is so thick it falls on both sides (Welsh X) and now it's pulled it's even worse - when you're on board his neck looks like a shetland pony! Thankfully he makes up for it when he's all plaited up :)

What it looks like at the moment:

And what it looks like just after pulling:

I leave it mid-length as it turns into a bog brush otherwise. It's about due to be done again, starting to look straggly and scruffy :p.
