sheath cleaning ...

yes, I think I will get the vet to sedate him when I do it as I don't want him to get stressed. Thanks for the advice everyone!

Have to admit I use the time wisely while horse is sedated as I hate to call the vet out for any reason other than an emergency or vaccs. So while murphy looks thoroughly p*ssed off as I clean his willy in the knowledge he cant stop me I also do all the things that he is arkward about the rest of the time i.e clip, pull mane etc! Then I can justify the cost of sedation
 
Have a mare and a gelding and they are both gross at times. Mac is very good though. He quite often lets it all hang out whilst eating and I can give it a good wipe over and remove all the scabby bits. Probably do a full on clean inside about every 6 months.
 
i have had geldings over 30 yrs and i never have clean there sheath-- i spray it with baby oil and it self cleans-- if it dont need it dont do it-- its not a natural event of things---
