Does anyone else have their horses in fields with sheep? Is it advised? Last year one of the horses had infected feet the whole summer slush the sheep were in the fields. Now my horse has scabby & really sore heels & above on his feet/legs. Had the vet out, & going in the small paddock to avoid the sheep

Just wondered what the general consensus was about horses & sheep.

Sorry to hear about your horse having scabs on his feet and legs.
My horses ocassionally go in the same paddock as my sheep and they have never had any problems with scabs on their feet or legs. I have never heard of sheep poo causing problems to horses feet but i dont know.

Hope your horses feet and legs are better soon :)

I had sheep in my pony's field for a few months last year and he never had problems with his feet
The only problem the sheep gave me was when i was riding he would chase the sheep:p

This ^^ :D Ours are out with sheep almost all year round and it's never been a problem.

Mmmh?

He didn't have a problem last year whilst with the sheep. Before that he was never with sheep, and never had a problem.

The 2 horses affected are both TB with sensitive skin. I don't think any of the others have had a problem.

have you got weeds and buttercups? is the grazing short? are the horses picking in the hedge? sound like photosensitivity! ie loaded liver reacting to sunlight resulting in scabby legs and poss noses if pink! cross grazing is an excellent choice as reduces worm burdoning on grazing, but sheep do crop it short!
