I own the sweetest and most obedient horse, in the world. Honestly. She is kind, loves people and is so gentle.

Tonight, my oh who is in the bad books in a big way currently, was trying to make it up to me by cleaning up her paddock. I was watching. He's done this job many times, and this has never happened before, but then, I've never had broken ribs and been in a serious mood with him before either...

Now you may think he looks a bit wary, that's because he had already attempted to move her and had received the same treatment. She's never done anything like this and when I went over to her she moved away with a hand signal and was her usual sweet self.

She's quite tuned into to me it would seem! :D

:D When I am yelling at my kids to hurry up and do their yards jobs my Highland will often stamp his feet and huff at them as if to say, "Do what your mother says!"

That's so funny. Does he do it any other time?

She has never lifted a foot in the 18 months I've owned her in any situation ever. I've watched the vid about fifty times and I still cannot believe she did it! (But obviously I am glad she's on my team LOL)
 
Oh how I like her:-) You can see her sussing him out from the corner of her eye.

My coloured horse tolerated a friend's Jack Russell for so long, despite the JR biting him a few times. JR got the stamp treatment and luckily escaped with nothing more than a severe fright and a new found respect for large coloured horses.

He does it with the little section a, who likes to tease his bigger stable mate by running around us in circles when he is being led out (section a just jogs along behind us so is rarely in a head collar and lead rope). The Highland was a shy youngster who never backed up for himself and was bullied quite a lot at livery but now, at eight years old, he's a big boy and a bit of a bossy boots! Still a gentle soul though. Definitely thinks he is my number two, though! I love him to bits, he is a huge character.

I laugh every time too. Which hurts my ribs. :D :o

The best bit is she is clearly a cob, and the way to her heart IS through her stomach. He had just carried her food down to her for me and she ate it then came down to give him a telling off!

I still can't believe she did it.
 
Ah that really tickled me. Fortunately nowt wrong with my ribs! Sorry op �� I love the expression on her face.

That has reminded me of the Lemon Curd Butty Saga. My coloured cob had medication for a while and I used to sprinkle the powder onto a lemon curd butty and he'd have it at bedtime. The medication came and went, but the lemon curd butty ritual remained and each night I'd take the butty, break it into 3 pieces and it would be devoured with a passion.

One night I was unwell and my hubby suggested I clear off to bed and he'd do the lemon curd butty ritual.

Half one in the morning there is a hell of a racket coming from His Lordship's stable and the walls are being kicked and there's snorting. I was convinced that he'd got cast and rushed out of bed to tend to my poor horse. He was stood calmly looking at me, defiantly, and I knew in an instance why... "But Mum YOU always give me the lemon curd butty and break it into 3 pieces and tell me how gorgeous I am and give me a cuddle and I can't sleep without YOU feeding me my lemon curd butty because that's the way it always is and anything less just isn't good enough... HE just stuffed it in my mouth and put the light out!!!"

Especially at the end as you laughed she looked over like 'Did I do good mum' 😂
 
He's pushing, not cueing, and in the wrong place. She doesn't understand him but he persists - like how we all shout louder when we are abroad and people don't understand English.

Yes - that's sort of why it's funny. I think we can all see the guy's obviously a novice, which is why she thought she could take the P.
 
I like her style! But she's not being awkward; she doesn't know what the hell he's trying to do. As JillA says; he's just pushing her and she doesn't understand why he's being so annoying so she chastises him!
 
She would normally move whatever anyone did. I can move her with a hand signal from any position. You can think what you like JillA but as far as I am concerned the horse knew he needed a ticking off and not because he was pushing her in the wrong place, and she gave him one!

Incidentally she had positioned herself in the way on purpose too, which she also never normally would do.

My even more novicey father has been clearing up for the last three weeks and she's never done anything like it to him!

I am a stickler for manners and training. You couldn't meet a nicer kinder horse than she.

I can assure you she was being awkward. She absolutely did know what he wanted. Four or five times she came and stood right on the place he was trying to clean up. She was at the least dominating him and I believe because she picked up on my feelings.

Have you never owned or known a horse which is just *different* to the normal run of the mill horse? She's a one in a million and I have a bond with her that I've never had with any horse. When I fell off recently and broke my ribs she just stood beside me, waiting, worried but not moving away from me. She has a larger than life character, which I can't put into words well enough to explain what I mean. People who know me in real life would know I am the least likely to anthropomorphize about any animal, as I'm sure that will be the next thing mentioned.

As I said in the OP, this horse does not behave like this normally, ever.

I completely understand what you mean about just knowing a horse so well that you are almost as one. I had that with my old mare. It is completely impossible to put into words. I think your mare is amazing and you obviously have that kind of bond with her that she can feel you and picks up on your emotions. I also think you are more likely to get this kind of relationship with a mare.
 
Whilst it's funny the stamp would have had me roaring to move if it were mine doing that to my OH, me being pissed off or not. She did know what he wanted, she just wasn't doing it, I can touch mine anywhere and he moves I can voice moving without touching as well, so they do know regardless of where you poke them.

She is being dominant and whilst she may normally be fine and pleasant id be keeping an eye of that kind of behaviour. I know your a stickler for manners so I'm sure she won't be doing it in future. :)
 
Your OH is well down the pecking order. My own mare will move around for me with the slightest body language but is staunchly defiant if anybody else tries to move her. I think it must be a mare thing.
 
I went and did exactly what he did and made her move immediately. To be perfectly honest I would not find it funny if it were any other horse!

Look it's just a funny video, I hesitated posting it because it's a one off, moment in time situation which she will *never* be permitted to repeat. I knew most people would take it in the spirit intended.

The last few weeks have been really horrible. I'm trying to lamb my ewes with broken ribs and bruising from a really stupid fall. My oh has been around the horse since I bought her and she has not ever done anything at all like this before. She never will again, believe me. He has also been a total tool the last few weeks and let me down when I needed him most. I am absolutely sure my presence of mind and feelings towards him caused the horse to behave in the manner she did.

Oh my god this made me LOL!

Its almost like she is saying "NO!". *Snigger*

My own OH is very novicey and my mare loves him to bits, however, he came up to help me one night as I was very unwell and said he would lead her in from the field and I would follow at my own pace.

Well she was a little SOD! Spooking, tail up and kept turning towards me and I was a "safe" distance behing her. Now someone behind her when she is being led in is not unsual as I carpool for work so the girl comes to the yard with me on a night and walks behind her (a good few feet behind her!) with no issue. I had to step in and she turned instantly into a donkey.

Bearing in mind my OH isn't scared of horses (just a novice, comes and helps me occasionally) and is a foot taller than me!

Again, my mare is incredibly well mannered and I am a stickler for manners.
 
That's it damnation. You can hardly believe how they change with a different person.

She's now read the thread and demanded a lemon curd sandwich delivered at bed time. I've had to put my foot down and say it wouldn't fit her low sugar and starch diet.
