Urgh... Does anybody else get a little peeved when people call your horse the wrong/offensive/unfair (delete as applicable) breed/name whatever? I have been asked around 3 times now wether my horse is a TB.. Now i have no problems with TB's, I have had a couple. But my current horse is a very well bred, very expensive Oldenburg.. Its really annoying me that she gets called a TB.. Howere I guess they havent seen her move ;)

Pointless post for a very wet, smelly Klix.

Minstrels anyone?

I wouldn't like you insulting a Thoroughbred of mine by calling her an Oldenburg. An Oldenburg is not thoroughbred but a mixed breed

What is the problem? If they called her a carthorse I could understand you being insulted.

i hate it when people call my mare a boy!! haha!

or when people ask if we race the horses? what even then mini shetties? can just see them up against a race horse! haha!

I don't see what your problem is: a lot of WBs look like TBs and vice versa ;) It's not as if someone is calling uour horse ugly.

You sound quite snobby tbh - you know, you can also get well bred, very expensive TBs :)

Not so much insulted just a little disheartened when she is nothing like a TB.. However i would understand her being called a donkey.. As her ears are.. well, only a mother could love them!!

Jenbleep - This is how deceiving the internet and messaging is as im far from snobby :P .. However they way I have worded it does seem that way, sorry! And when I say she was expensive were not talking mummy and daddy paying 15k for a nicely bred 3yo :) I know that there are plently of other breeds aside from TB's that are probabily better bred and more expensive than she was

Most very well bred WBs have so much TB in them it's an easy mistake to make! And as for movement - well some of the ex-racer TBs on here are competing to extremely high levels in dressage and have amazing movement, so don't take it as an insult at all.

My WB is extremely well-bred with Sandro Hit lines and he has been referred to as a bay TB on more than 1 occasion :)

Nope doesn't bother me at all. My ISH looks like a big TB (75% TB), my Welsh is unmistakeably Welsh, Flynn looks superb and athletic but is actually crippled and no-one would guess his breed (KWPN, about 85% TB), my TB mare I suppose does look like a little TB, my Shire X TB mare could be anything that's not put together very well (75% TB, a Njinski granddaughter!), the foal will be interesting to see what people think he is when he's a bit bigger but tbh I don't really care - he's yet another Heinz x TB (50%).

What winds me up is when people put up a thread with a picture of a somewhat non-descript animal with the question "what breed do you think it is? My friend's auntie's brother's second cousin Mabel thinks he's got some Arab in there but I think he might be a falabella". Just get over yourself, it's a flipping Heinz and as long as you love it and it does the job for you who cares?

No, I couldn't care less. Actually taken it as a compliment when my (unknown breeding, budget BWP) has been referred to as a thoroughbred, when it has come from both a trainer and a jockey. Maybe he's just not well bred enough or expensive enough for it to wind me up though

Some people are just interested as to what their horse may be hic. I asked this question a while ago, just out of curiosity.

Be more offended when your OH says your horse looks like he belongs in the field next door with the Highland cattle.

When I bought Bella (not the Trakehner of my user name) this summer, I was asked what she was. I replied "A horse, you know, 'leg at each corner'" lol Unfortunately the Thelwell reference passed right over the heads of the Belgian friends asking;)

Everyone thinks our little TB is part Connemara despite her being full TB, and very well-bred... It's cute, she looks quite Connie at times (she's solid for a TB, and is quite little, and has a proper pony face!).

The most offensive thing is when someone thinks your TB is a warmblood type ;) Poor Reg has never quite recovered from the slight. (seriously though. A WB? He couldn't look more like a TB if someone wrote "I'm a TB" on his forehead....)

My point was that you can't tell what a horse may be from looking at it, especially when there's more than a couple of breeds involved. We had a first cross connie x section d born here. To look at him he's exactly like an oversized exmoor! You'd not guess connie or welsh:(

hey ! I'll have you know that my Carthorse is very handsome AND he's got a finer coat than his 'well' bred' field mates..huh:mad:

And P'S...am I correct in thinking that all the larger WBs have a dollop of carthorse in them anyhow? ;)

Everyone who came across my 1 yr tb (who was consequently very well bred by piccolo) was convinced he was an Arab.
I didnt mind, chestnut, fine, pretty and about as much use as chocolate fire gaurd on the track. An Arab would of prob gone further than him :P

hic I can't quote on phone but totally agree with the last paragraph of your first post. My horse is a Heinz 57 he may have some welsh in and possibly even some friesian but whereas other people on my yard would be ringing all known previous owners to find out every inch of his breeding and history I have just got on with enjoying him for what he is :)

Heh, I must be a horrible snob too then because I would be very offended if anyone called my pink papered Hanoverian a TB. But don't tell my two actual TBs, because I suspect they would be hurt.

In my defense, I swear the Hanoverian is a snob himself. He was once briefly stabled next to a cob, and spent the entire time throwing himself at the door trying to kill it. I've never known him so unhappy. Now he's back with his in-crowd of Warmbloods, he's fine. :D
