A few months ago I posted for advice after my mare stopped sweating on one of the hottest days of the year. She'd had a guttural pouch swab and it appeared the perfect storm of high heat, high humidity and a stressed horse (possibly under-sedated, but we'll never know) led to sudden onset anhydrosis - and an enormous vet's bill
Its not common in the UK, so most of the research has been done in Florida. I tried a few things (& thanks for advice on here), but nothing worked. Exercising her over summer had to be done in the morning as any later and you could see her veins popping, but no sweat.
Until this week.....
2 things happened this week
- I started her on Equinatural's uveitis herbal supplement
- about 40 odd trees were felled in the paddock near her, which caused all kinds of silly behaviour as they came down.
Yesterday I lunged her and she had one of those mad, bucking, galloping lunging sessions that I get every few weeks or so. But this time we got sweat!
Absolutely pouring in it too.
Never been so happy to have a sweaty horse! I'm hoping her body has re-set and we'll be back to normal now.
