Shetland as a horse...

Random thought... what horse would be a similar build to a giant mini Shetland. Mine is a stout little fellow.

So maybe a giant version is a Suffolk Punch? (If they came in a variety of colours). What do others think?

The best giant Shetland I ever saw was the accidental result of a Shetland stallion with a brain, a big hunter mare and a tall muck heap!

The foal was a short legged, compact 15.2 that could jump everything and had the Shetland brain. He was fab. Very hairy.

Fjords are generally similar, the more draft like type.

People think I am joking when they ask about fencing for shetlands and I say Fort Knox! 6m high brick wall, 6ft down into the ground too and topped with razor wire - I feel a big shetland would need all that trebled!

Many a time I have commented that if my wee fella was 14.2 he would be the perfect pony and worth a fortune. However on his true "shitland" days I thank my lucky stars he is only 7hh ??

Sadly not, he was at a riding school / livery yard I went to as a kid about 20 years ago.

I knew a Highland x Shetland. Unfortunately he had a Highland body on Shetland legs. He was called 'Stumpy' and was unhelpful, greedy and stubborn but very amusing.

I think the world can do without actual Giant Shetlands... I know my OH would be desperate for one though, he loves Shetlands and is 6'5 so struggles to find many horses to fit him

I dread to think! ?. We almost went to view a 12yr old and then looked the breed up and realised just how enormous they are! Be ok if we had hacking direct from home but we wouldn’t have got it in the Ifor 505 with my mare to go forest riding! ?
