I just got my vet bill through, I'm a wee bit shocked.

In May ( can't understand why it's taken so long for the bill??) my Shetland was gelded at their surgery due to his size (35”) and age (4 1/2) however if I remember correctly I've been told before by the receptionists this is often cheaper in theory. There was no complications that I'm aware of and he arrived in the morning and we collected him in the afternoon.

So how much would you expect to pay?

Would expect between £100 and £250, so I guess yours might have been £500?

Eeeek...Try not to guess what mine was, I'm more interested to know what one would expect to pay or has paid?

Think I paid £250 when done in the field ....Then he got infected and had lots of antibiotics and then 3 weeks on was re operated on at equine hospital and that bit was £1200

I have no idea what yours would be but I paid £260 inlucing call out and follow up antibiotics

(and VAT if there is VAT on it)

also I believe Rambo had covered. There are more risks for horses above four and stallions hence didn't do it in the field like I do for colts... plus I was under the understanding it was cheaper, to start with there is less £40+ call out!

I'll post the price a little later, don't want to basied peoples opinions : )

Free if you use two bricks!

No idea but think it was about £200 years ago so would think £500 minimum if he was done at horspital.

When I had a 7yo gelded here, he had to be under GA, and it was £400. Did he have GA?

If he did then £550, if not £350.

Also had a 3yo done, but only sedated and it was £120. Both had covered mares.

I had my welsh section a pony cut at the age of 4, we also believe he had cover as we bought him from market and he acted very stallion like!! He was cut in the field, no problems except he took a while to come back round.

It cost £170

I remember when I booked I was quoted between £200/£300. I simple wouldn't have had him gelded if I'd known, the bloody pony only cost me didn't cost me more then £100.. and lovely as Rambo is I'm sure I could buy quite a few (gelded) shetlands for this price...

My bill is for £600 and £705 including VAT....

I am planning to call tomorrow and firstly ask for a quote for a similar gelding and see what figer they come up with before bringing up my own bill. I will certianly be wanting a break down if they believe the bill is correct... still where am I going to get £800 od (My bill including flu and tec jabs for him and other two)

I'm not suggesting anything but the lady on faniances there was a fellow livery at a yard I was at till a few months ago and it wasn't the, er, sweetest relationship...

what did you do...leave the pony there as payment???

bloody hell!!!!! did he have one retained, know someone who paid that for a young sec A with one still right up inside!! definately would want a full breakdown and ask how it has doubled from the original quote!!

Nope his balls were definitaly very well dropped!!

Even if it was something like that, some complication, the vets should have contacted me. THere normaly brillant, will inform you of any changes and impact on prices, will try hard to keep them to minimun and do the cheapest opition, and my vet is often very generous on his time too. I really wasn't expecting this when there normaly so good.
