Shocking video, warning bit gory

Well. No idea how everyone else interpreted that. I am no master horse analysis by any means! But I'd say it just looks like a spoiled child, wound up, lashed out. But that was some cracker!!
Maybe the fella was starved at birth- but my god.. somebody didn't assert there dominance at a very early stage. Horses are not puppies..
Wow slightly shocked.

Will be watching the thread!!

*adding* In all fairness, the horse warned him frequently that he was not in the mood for this **** but you would never expect that too happen... I mean you couldn't even do anything about that- even if you had a lunge whip, or item of protection. *SHOCKED FACE AGAIN*

*adding again* Just registered- the horse is palomino/cremello, are those horses not prone to having mental problems at times (from hearing people talk). Have seen a couple of people selling on there palominos (welsh D's and Welsh B cross) due to the horse just lashing out expectantly. Maybe coincidence, perhaps the breeding?

Not like me to say something like this but what a plonker! I only watched a few seconds, the writing was on the wall from the word go with his approach! Don't want to watch anymore I'm afraid.

I would say the horse was attacking the object it was frightened of not the handler. If you watch it it looks more like it's going at the blanket (whatever it is) and gets him in the process. Still not good but think the reaction of 'I'm going to have to put him down' is a bit harsh!

That being said, it depends on what it's behaviour is like other than this moment in time on the video.

hand reared orphans are often the most difficult horses to handle and are usually riddled with issues.

In defense of the horse (not that his behaviour was acceptable) he did warn his handler multiple times before the attack, but the attack was rather over the top for what was essentially an annoyance to him.

Why he wasn't gelded as a youngster I don't know, he should never have been kept entire.

The handler's technique of "taming" him left a lot to be desired imo

the horse was obviously un-nerved and timid about the blanket thing being thrown at it, kept turning in as it didn't want this thing thrown over its back... Wouldn't have expected quite such a violent attack but could see that it was getting stressed and was a bit like self defense as far as i could see :o

Given that there were quite a few people around, I am guessing that this was a 'last chance' scenario and the guy who got hurt was the expert that they had got in to sort out the issues for this horse, hence the 'put him down' comment. Before anyone can comment properly the back story needs to be known. IMO

If they do - it's not because they have one/two copies of the cream gene.

Hand reared horses are notorious for having behavioural problems. This is one of the reasons why it is so important to try to find foster mares for orphaned foals.

However - the horse did say 'back off' quite clearly before he bit the man.

^ This.

I only mentioned on here yesterday about a pony I had that had been hand reared. I had to sell him because he kept attacking other people's children and taking chunks out of them while they were stroking him. I was scared of getting sued.

Exactly. The horse did warn him but it was still an extreme reaction and the horse is clearly quite dangerous. If there is someone experienced and brave enough to take him on and work out his issues then great, good luck to them. But otherwise it looks like he may need to be put down (if he hasn't been already) because how can you ever trust a horse even in basic situations that has that level of reaction?

One Lucky cowboy....He could have been killed, why do owners wait that long to try and get help, if you watch the longer version, he talks about how the horse is your mirror...which makes me a flirty red head:D
Horse was confused and had a tantrum, not sure on the reason for sacking it then pulling its head to him, from what i can gather the man who got attacked wasn't the professional, the professional got him in the trailer, after the horse nearly had the same guy again over the top of the rails! Shame that animals end up this way.

Mmm good point. It is a very severe reaction and it didn't seem THAT terrified. My mare has been so terrified of something that she is shaking from top to bottom but she hasn't ever reacted like that.

Only thing is that they seemed to be shocked when it did it and if they knew it was so bad then surely he should have taken more precautions safety wise?

The write up says it's a clip from the Buck Brannaman documentary - so I'm guessing there's more back story to this clip.

My old man is a face puller and rests his teeth on my face in the stable, and he'll snap the air if you annoy him...but he's never hurt me in all these years.....however, after watching this, I'm going to just throw his hay over his door tomorrow

I also believe this was the true picture....the lady was apologising to him and was very keen to get him to hospital...

Lol! Have I just called BB a plonker then? :D

I'll admit I'm a numpty trainer really but even I could see that approach with that horse was only going to end in tears if he persisted.

Indeed it is from the buck brannaman. The woman who owned this horse was an idiot and this horse was pts and rightly so in my opinion.

Its a scene from the movie Buck about Buck Brannaman. Heres a longer clip from the film with the after part of that scene and a bit about the stallion's past

didn't watch the whole clip, but saw the horse go for the man over the fence, is it just me or does he seem like he might have an issue with cowboy hats? Every time he is shown attacking he appears to be going for the hat foremost rather than anything else.

Thanks for the link to the longer clip. It does sound as if there is little hope of that animal becoming safe. The comment about the deprivation of oxygen at birth may well explain the behaviour, sad but sometimes it is better to let a poorly baby go than end up with a damaged and damaging animal
