Today, for the second time in about 2 years????imanaged to hack CS.....was only an über sedate plod round the block but if we can manage that semi regularly without a return to demented rearing and passaging for miles threatening to dump me, I'll settle for sedate plodding!!!!

So,I need a new hat as NMT and I share the home hat when hacking separately but if we go together I refuse to use my comp hat in case he does evict me and ruins it! Only other hat is very old and doesn't fit very well now as padding has deteriorated.

So,for under £100 ish, find me a sporty type, navy, hacking hat, vented, and can be as uber bling as you like as have my LAS for BD.

Though about uvex or Casco?

The Uvex hats are light weight and nicely vented though not IMO particularly flattering nor do they feel substantial. If I am riding anything a little quirky out hacking it is not my hat of choice! In those circumstances I revert to my traditional jockey skull with velvet cover. I have a Uvex if you want a nose at it.

As I am currently immobile some web ferreting for a hat will keep me occupied :-)

If im hacking something quirky I wear an HS1 and deal with having a hot head. Not that your head should get too hot just plodding

Ooooooh, see the gatehouse was one I mentioned to NMT but it is a bit expensive for hacking in walk!!!
Love the Casco and the Harry horse one.....and I could have some grim coloured stripe on the Casco ;)

You know I love my Casco! I think they are such a good price for what they are as well. So much choice in colour etc! Classic dressage were really good to buy it from.

The Gatehouse Conquest is extremely comfortable, feels safe and the vents are effective. In my experience, the cheaper hats are cheap for a reason and savings have been made in manufacture which makes them feel less protective and secure.

The first thing I would look at is the safety standard, nothing is too safe for hacking round the block, my friend, a pro dressage rider nearly died, was in a coma for a week & has been left with brain damage following a freak fall from a usually steady pony, she was wearing a PAS1 standard hat, without it she would be dead.

The cheaper hats are cheap for a reason, the minimum standard I would wear is PAS1 which the Champion Ventair is, & not too expensive. HS1 & Protector are the highest standard in the world, my Protector is the best & most comfortable hat ever, & is vented.

Some trendy & expensive makes are the lowest standard, & some have no standard at all...

Love the bling crocodile but no navy :(

Lol at the samshield, I do love them but they are very popular now and I like something a bit different and of course they are sooooooooo expensive, that one is nearly as much as CS !!!!

Gatehouse conquests are ridiculously comfortable. I LOVE mine and the best thing is it doesn't give me rank hat hair if I hack before work. Worth the extra £70!

As others have said overbudget a bit but I do rate my gatehouse conquest. Feels light but sturdy and keeps head cool. It felt very different to my old champion ventair as ventair comes lower down the skull at the back. Took a bit of getting used to but I still feel it offers plenty of protection just a different shape, and my head got hot very easily in champion ventair. There should be one or two pics on facebook of it being worn if you want to see what it looks like on (and ignore jockey's ridiculous jumping face pulling ;) ) :).

I have the Casco Mistrall and it is really comfy, lightweight and so well vented that when it was a bit colder my head was getting cold when riding! The Mistrall Plus comes in navy and I think is even cooler. I want that for my next show hat but need to get good use out of my CO one first.
