I retired my old Sec D when he was 21. When he was 17, I was within a hairsbreadth of having him PTS. He had acute laminitis, EMS and a Cushing diagnosis. Complete thanks to a superb vet and remedial farrier (he was barefoot before this) we saved him. Once he recovered, I managed to continue to ride him for another 4 years, when he told me he was uncomfortable being ridden. I then moved him to a retirement home, when he has been for the last 6 years. I visited him today and he looks so well and happy (although very hairy). He is costing a fortune, but he is such a special boy - love him to pieces
