I retired my old Sec D when he was 21. When he was 17, I was within a hairsbreadth of having him PTS. He had acute laminitis, EMS and a Cushing diagnosis. Complete thanks to a superb vet and remedial farrier (he was barefoot before this) we saved him. Once he recovered, I managed to continue to ride him for another 4 years, when he told me he was uncomfortable being ridden. I then moved him to a retirement home, when he has been for the last 6 years. I visited him today and he looks so well and happy (although very hairy). He is costing a fortune, but he is such a special boy - love him to pieces4832DEF9-1771-48FE-AD4B-5A819AE254DA.jpeg4833CB00-C22B-4E2A-AA7C-07506B64ECF0.jpeg4832DEF9-1771-48FE-AD4B-5A819AE254DA.jpeg4833CB00-C22B-4E2A-AA7C-07506B64ECF0.jpeg

She’s mostly retired these days, we were really concerned she wouldn’t enjoy being retired but she loves it! Though judging by her behaviour on her most recent hack she is not feeling her age, naughty old lady that she is ???‍♀️

Frank is 26, goes out for walks, realistically I think he'd still be rideable but he lives with my mum and if she were truthful she's never really liked riding him. He doesn't give sufficient warning for spooks ;). Round and fluffy, very very fluffy! Got a belly clip last week as he keeps sweating.

She is beautiful - and a lot less fluffy than my boy xx

Ah I cheated as the full body shot was from summer, haven’t got that many recent shots! Though PBA’s don’t tend to have a lot of coat, she has as much coat as the other two fluff monsters that have been clipped twice this winter ?? x

The palo is 20 :o, I felt compelled to ask if mum wanted her clipping too, for the first time she said no - such a relief as she is a bit of a pita!

My boy has gone feral - he needs clipping in the spring. It take me and YO 15 mins and his girlfriend tied up next to him to keep all 4 feet on the ground and is not pretty! Any longer and he just takes off ?. I keep threatening her to post FB pics of her "professional" clip. Needs must!

Angel is 26 now and she is mostly an Angel. Mostly.
She's still in work but we stick to hacking and short lunging sessions in the winter and we do a bit of schooling in the summer when the ground is good.
She only stopped jumping in autumn this year when she quite clearly said no more thanks but the odd log she isn't adverse too.
We regularly do victory laps of the field for no reason and she can smell a wormer about 3 miles away!

She can cope with belly, but she head flicks if you do any neck which has resulted in some interesting lines over the years, as PBA thankfully she doesn't grow the coat of the welsh! Obviously I get all the 'fun' jobs when I visit :D

tatty I desperately want to go back in time and do it all again but with better skills!

Alf is 23 now - still in work, and full of beans. i had retired him from the school, but he's started teaching a friends boyfriend to ride, so he's doing a bit of schoolwork - including doing passage if he feels like it! Very hot and spooky out hacking at the moment - i don't think he's feeling his age!81158484_10159010451735730_6750617282734456832_o.jpg

Can't post pics but my old lad is 27 on his passport - probably older. He hunted every week until last season. Did PC camp and took riders to Nat Champs every year until last year. Its a bit much for him now so he just does the odd bit. He's teaching DD's girlfriend to ride ATM. Thakfully they are both as tiny as each other.

my boy is 22 going on 23 in may. he is in full work and last weekend won at novice with 67%. During december he won two novice tests at our local riding club christmas show and was second in a jumping class (it was only small, but we went for a play - he has nothing to prove and can still easily jump round a metre plus class) - in the jumping class the only thing that beat him was a twelve two pony - he beat all the others - he still turns on a six pence. he is very precious and loves life. we both enjoy going out competing and while he does still we will keep going. incidentally, he has won three challenge cups at our local riding club last year and been to several big riding club championship shows

Here is my 42 year old Welsh Section C. She was diagnosed with Cushings about 10 years ago but doesn't display any outward signs. She still enjoys a walk in hand down the road to check out the neighbouring sheep and still lives out 24/7 which she has always preferred. Feeds are al soaked now but she certainly still enjoys life. image.jpg

Loving all the pics of your wonderful oldies ! ? Bradsmum your 42 yo is amazing!

RrR, that was taken in Sept when she was trying on her new rain sheet. I can't believe how well she's looking, wish I'd taken one this afternoon in the sunshine. She had a groom before her walk and despite looking like a yak, her coat was shining

She may actually be older but that is going by her passport and knowing a little about her previous life before she came to us about 35 years ago! She can be a little madam but is very food orientated so can usually be persuaded to co-operate.
