I have just made my own lady Bird quarter mark for Lady Bugs bum.:D

Will give it a try tonight and take some pic's.

Anyone else made thier own?

One of my students is making the school logo so we can compete as a school. It's the holidays at the moment so will have to wait till after. Looking forward to seeing how this post goes.

My racehorses get turned out in various designs depending on what horse it is, what track I am at, who owns the horse, the build of the bum and the colour of the horse - it all get's very techincal lol!

French horses I always turnout with a Fluer De Lise surrounded by small stars. If they have a big bum then they gets dragons teeth, if a small bum then a triangle of big stars on their thigh area.

Some tracks in Scotland and some tracks in England I have a Scottish Thistle that gets surrounded by small stars and again either dragons teeth or bigger stars.

The tracks I don't do the Thistle at the horse gets a big star surrounded by little stars with again either dragons teeth or bigger stars.

In summer I also just do a triangle of squares done with a mane comb and in the blank squares small stars get put. I only do this if I have too much time on my hands!

For fussy owners the horses just get the stars.

In summer when we don't need quarter sheets then the horses get a small star on their shoulder and a small one just behind the saddle.

I did get extremely bored one day waiting to take my horse out and so he got decorated and I mean decorated! He got the Fluer De Lise style on his bum. He got a big star at the top of his neck with a cascade of smaller stars going down his neck, down his shoulder and down his front leg. I think back on it and cringe that I ever took the poor beaties out in public looking like that! But he did get the Best Turned Out award lol!

I don't think I have any pics of any of my decorations.

you cant beat a coupl of stars in my opinion:

i dont like too much going on with quarter markers, ive won so many turn out prizes with just the stars less is more!

I usually end up so ahead of time that I get really bored at the races - hence the decorations lol! On the rare occasions that time has run away from me they get 2 simple stripes down their bum but they haven't been seen for a while!

I never have figured out how to do the inside out tail plait. Normal tail plaits and a 4 strand plait I can do but not that one.

EKW - You take this to the extreme. lol

Shame you have no pictures.

I will get pic's of the Bug on my horses bum but didn't have enough time to do it last night as was running late for my lesson.

I don't know how to do quarter marks! Can someone post a link?

The inside out tail plait is easy if you can do the normal one. So when you do the normal one you cross the hairs OVER each other to plait, in the inside out one you cross the hairs UNDER each other.

Good tip might try it. Mind you not grat at the normal one, normally get mum to do it while i do the mane!!!

Most of us cheat on the quarter marks and get a stencil. The you just back brush over it.
I'm not too good at doing freehand ones.

This just gives you an idea of what i mean. you can spray them different colours too.

Treehouse supply my designs through my distributor Smartgrooming

I've also had a bit of a run on these Royal crowns as well - no idea why though :D

The painted designs are gaining popularity as they show up better and the stencils can be made with much finer detail than brushing ones as they don't have to take a brush across them.

AshF - I got a stencil off you a few years ago for clipping. 'EAT MY DUST', got some comments when i was out hunting!!!! lol

If your gonna go OTT then do it in style :D That's my moto lol!

I only do this with the racehorses at the track. I normally show natives so I can't decorate them! And when my TB goes out showing he gets bog standard stripes and teeth, nothing fancy lol!

I actually got into this because my sister was working for a racehorse trainer called Alan Bailey in Cheshire (iirc). He cut his own stencil (AB) which the grooms used to get best turned out prizes with but it fell apart and she asked me if I could replicate it.

I'll bet you did - I remember drawing that one up lol !!.

I've had some requests for a few funny ones over the years :D

FYI - I've actually changes things around a bit in the last few months with some super materials which I have access to, and the methods and the clipping designs I am making now are tougher and are reuseable (as have been tested by a few here) - I just haven't had time to sort out my website though :(

Bug2007, there isn't actually a lot to see with the clipping stuff as I need to go through it so I disabled them in the listings till I can get to edit it - pretty much all the old designs I did though.

I've just had another panic order for a load of the crown brushing designs as well so that is another night of toil ahead of me when I get home from work - The dog is going to have to wait for her walk as well lol.

I am actually really really jealous, i cant even do the most simple design on them and even with a stencil they look rubbish. Have any of you got any tips?!!!

AshF can you do any design that is sent to you, is it expensive (pm me if you like!!!)

:D

Make horses bum damp, spray some hair spray over area, place on stencil. get friend to hold if it's easier. Then brush air to one side (i find this has better results than back brushing) it causes shaddow in the light.

remove stencil and hey presto.

The hair spray will hold the hair in place for longer.

Thanks, i am going to try agin now!!! :)

I don't dampen the bum first, I just put stencil on and brush downwards with a damp brush. I will attack a couple of my beasties at work tomorrow - then you'll know what OTT is :D

Lovely turnout - your horse looks stunning and I love the star design.

Pity NZ racehorses don't get turned out this well. They get mane & tail brushed and socks washed.

Ashf the skull and crossbones looks really cool! Unfirtunately we can't paint them on incase there is tiniest minutist chance of something in the paint going into the skin and bloodstream thus causing a failed dope test. Sometimes rules suck lol!
