Sorry if this has been posted before, but I am a newbie :o

I have a purebred Arab mare that I want to show but unfortunately a few of the youngsters she shares a field with have nibbled away at here mane :(

I have been told that I can still go ahead and show as the classes are about confirmation and not mane

What do you think?

Thanks x

if you pull her mane well, you could disguise it and it wouldn't be so obvious, or you could just brush it so that it is harder to see. i even know one man who was so distraught when his gelding with sweat itch scratched his mane out that he put cut out some of his tail hair and put it in his mane! you could try it if you want!!:D

I suppose it depends what level you want to show at, i have been to some big arab shows and they do have rather impressive manes that people clearly take alot of care over but if its local level i cant see it will be a massive problem.

You can get extensions! Using a bit of tail hair is an interesting idea!

I don't think you'll need to worry too much as I assume you will start out local and low key anyway :-)

Thanks for the replies.

Yes will only be going local, but agree with the fact that some of them have impressive manes!!

If i could figure out how to upload a pic i would show you what the damage looks like??!!

x

I show my arab at National level and I promise you they don't worry about a bit of missing mane. Go for it!

My boy has a impressive mane, it is naturally curly and when windy ends up in ringlets like this.

PS. he is in full winter woolies in the pic.

ShowjumpingPrincess- you would not pull am Arabs mane for showing at all; they are shown in natural state.

I don't imagine it will be an issue at local level, OP- these things happen, they are horses :)

You never ever touch an arabs mane or tail.

OP you'll just have to leave it to grow out or learn to do a running plait along the rest so it kind of disguises the short bit!

I might have figured it out, here she is....

You can see where her mane is missing x
