Question in title really but does anyone know if I will be marked down for brown boots at local and county levels?

Normally wear tweed/cream so fancy some brown boots to match and I’m bored of my black ones!

They wouldn't be correct for showing but you shouldn't have any issues at dressage (unaff I assume if local?)

I'm just about to invest in a new pair too, and was considering going brown. I knew brown would be ok for BD but I didn't know it wasn't ok for showing - maybe black would be better after all... gah!

actually brown boots with tweed in hunter, cob and riding horse classes is perfectly acceptable. In fact brown boots with rat catcher on the hunting field is correct dress. So, if you are showing as any of these then fine. You will not stand out or be marked down.
My friend wears brown boots, very pale cream breeches and a navy jacket for BD. it looks very smart and is also perfectly acceptable.

I don't understand showing rules at all. To me black boots clash with anything else you would wear for showing, brown tack, navy hat, tweed jacket.... black boots? Personally think brown boots would go better but obviously I'm missing the point.

Totally agree with this - I personally really dislike black boots and much prefer brown. But then I gave up showing and sold my tweed so can wear what I bloody well like now!

No, you are not missing the point at all. Brown is fine for day classes where tweed is the correct dress.

I don't know where this myth about brown boots comes from and is often spouted by people who show, but who clearly not know the rules of correct dress.

Thanks everyone!

Current wear is green tweed, cream stock or shirt plus cream breeches so I thought the brown would look nice and not as harsh.
I have had loads of black bromonts and am bored of buying the same pair over and over and want some that look a bit different for competing.

So I can use brown to show then?

At the moment I am stuck at local level but want to do County next year if I ever get that far.

your right, its actually not unheard of. youll see it a fair bit in the working hunter rings

I’m in the m&m classes if that makes any difference!

I think as long as they are havanna and not a bright brown (if that makes sense), paired with a jacket that compliments them and Nice stone/cream jods not yellow, I think it looks really smart. I certainly dont think it will lose you any placings!

Trying to think of the last time i saw brown boots worn in M&M classes and i can't - although i have in workers. Doesn't mean they don't, but it's pretty rare, atleast around here.

I find brown boots look more harsh than black, as brown boots tend to be a lighter brown than tack. This is coming from someone who hates black tack too.

Ah I might have to get another boring pair of black ones then Crackerz.

My pony already stands out as one of the naughtiest probably don’t need to stand out for any more reasons!

Brown is more correct with tweed. Short black boots are completely wrong, if you are showing M&M's, even for evening performances brown is better. If you colour match everything else and your horse shows himself nicely there is no problem. Have fun.

Thanks all. I'll be back to thinking about brown again then! (show in tweed in coloured classes)

Brown is totally fine for showing. Not many people wear brown long boots though one top cob producer - who shall remain nameless but got a LOT of bad press over a seriously over weight cob last year - wears brown.

In a dark colour I quite like it but you wouldn't want a lighter brown as that would stand out too much.
