I have entered my yearling in a very small local show in 2 weeks time, the class is likely to be very small and it will be very quiet as you have to turn up at a time for class and then leave straight away afterwards so there aren't too many people at the venue.
Being as it will be very quiet it seemed like a good opportunity for a 1st outing.
Pheobe is 13 months now, leads lovely in-hand and from another horse, I need to practice trotting up a bit still as she will trot from another horse but not keen when on foot.
We have been doing loading practice for a few weeks and even had a trip around the block in the lorry so feel we are well prepared there.
She stands to be bathed (in fact loves it) so I think she will enjoy the fuss of the pampering. She was clipped in the spring which has grown out and she is lovely and shiny at the moment.
My biggest problem is turnout....she is a MULE (Welsh x Poitou Donkey), so what is the correct turnout?
I haven't got a tweed jacket and I do not want to invest in one for a couple of local show just for her experience. I do have a lovely waistcoat made which is browns and greys with horse head pattern (not too bold or garish), so thinking maybe that with a yellow/beige shirt, red tie. beige/grey slacks (opposite colour to her legs) then navy gloves and velvet cap/riding hat. Then a showing cane.
I have found her a plain brown bridle, she is very strong and wears a tiny eggbut snaffle on our walks out so will keep her in that. Then a leather lead with a chain and clips to both sides of the bit.
She has enough mane to plait so think I properly should and then trim/tidy tail, ears, feathers.
Would this be ok?
