Another one for Ryan's Son - those fly bucks used to thrill the crowd!
Also Oli Townend's Cool Mule when he was a junior showjumper - just loved that name!

Oh dear, I will be going back!

Prince Hal and Tosca
The Rock
Foxhunter
Stroller
The Maverick
Nizefella because he was a great character, like his rider and I was lucky enough to look after him in his retirement.

Pennwood Forge Mill - his winning the George V cup was the most brilliant and exciting jump off against the clock I've ever seen. The stadium absolutely erupted (and so did our front room!). It's a pity it isn't on you tube somewhere.

Ryan's Son always my favourite. I managed to see him in his stable at the Norfolk show. Was so upset when he died! Milton, of course, but do you remember the grey Tutein and Annette Lewis's distinctive jumping style??!

How could I have forgotten about this combination? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bbX-HuayOKQ&feature=related

This is why showjumping was immensely popular for the general public. At HOYS or Christmas Olympia Claret at 15 hands could be followed into the ring by something like the giant Fire standing 18.2.
Those viewers not in the loop like horses with simple catchy names and characters.
Modern international showjumping unfortunately cannot cater for quirks either equine or human.

Flipper (Hugo Simon).....he was only 15.2hh on his tip toes and had the heart of an ox. What a trier! Had the privilege to be involved with his care. Also, ET.

I've often thought that too. If you look at some of the top horses of yesteryear; such as Deister, Ryan's Son, Claret, Tuetin, and several others; they wouldn't even be brought out of a stable to be sold as a showjumper today!

Well i would say my old pony Strawberry Mojo :)

Here here a true legend - competed against him when he was with Nikki Bingham- back in the day when you didn't see many coloureds out competing.

It's Otto - loved him- use to watch him as a child at Olympia.

And now either Talan or RB Vangalis S- (both stand out to me but maybe as their stud is close to me so I just notice them more with the local connection)

And can anyone remember Hartwig Steenken's chestnut mare, Simona? There was a World Championships where none of the other three finalists could ride one side of her. So sad that Hartwig died so tragically, and so young. At that time he had the young Deister on his yard, and also Gladstone. They went on to become legends as well.

hi I know this is a bit out of date but yes I remember simona I was hickstead watching that world championship simona was a sheer jumping machine to my mind there hasn't been an equal.. hartwig steenken was top class and such a terrible loss to be killed so young.. an unbeatable combination.
