Well took Jerry to the Jays today to test my theory that the saddle was maybe sitting a bit too low, causing his rushing and arguing. Under strict instructions from my trainer I exhausted him yesterday and gave him extra calmer this morning. Then the sun came out and Jerry went to sleep
He was so laid back in the warm up, couldn't get more chilled out, popped a couple of jumps and then went in for the 2ft6. He was lovely. Had no. 5 down as it was not worth bothering with apparently, then had a moment at no 6 and jumped from a standstill, just taking top rail off, then was perfect again, circled for the last as wasn't happy with the canter and he jumped it beautifully.
So, warmed up for the last class 2ft9, and he was still very laid back, almost tired
Went in and jumped the first then got a bit carried away and I had to stop and get him together, which resulted in us trotting up to no. 2 and then getting an awful stride and taking the top rail off. He then had a bit of an argue but came back to me to clear the next fence, jumped the double really nicely and went clear over the rest. He was abit fast in places, but was jumping properly rather than hollowing, and making an effort. Was so so pleased with him, couldn't stop hugging him afterwards
Is so lovely to have the old Jerry back, feel bad that he was obviously uncomfortable before, but thanks to everyone on here, I kept going over it in my head till I worked out what it was. He still argues a bit, but more in a let me jump kind of way then what he was like before, and the he comes back to me before the fence and takes off rather than flattening it.
Here is the video of the 2ft9 so you can see the difference
