Well took Jerry to the Jays today to test my theory that the saddle was maybe sitting a bit too low, causing his rushing and arguing. Under strict instructions from my trainer I exhausted him yesterday and gave him extra calmer this morning. Then the sun came out and Jerry went to sleep

He was so laid back in the warm up, couldn't get more chilled out, popped a couple of jumps and then went in for the 2ft6. He was lovely. Had no. 5 down as it was not worth bothering with apparently, then had a moment at no 6 and jumped from a standstill, just taking top rail off, then was perfect again, circled for the last as wasn't happy with the canter and he jumped it beautifully.

So, warmed up for the last class 2ft9, and he was still very laid back, almost tired

Went in and jumped the first then got a bit carried away and I had to stop and get him together, which resulted in us trotting up to no. 2 and then getting an awful stride and taking the top rail off. He then had a bit of an argue but came back to me to clear the next fence, jumped the double really nicely and went clear over the rest. He was abit fast in places, but was jumping properly rather than hollowing, and making an effort. Was so so pleased with him, couldn't stop hugging him afterwards

Is so lovely to have the old Jerry back, feel bad that he was obviously uncomfortable before, but thanks to everyone on here, I kept going over it in my head till I worked out what it was. He still argues a bit, but more in a let me jump kind of way then what he was like before, and the he comes back to me before the fence and takes off rather than flattening it.

Here is the video of the 2ft9 so you can see the difference

that's so much better, what a difference. lots of time round the corners to get your rhythm back etc, very well done.
what bit did you have him in there?
when he's going like that, you could easily do a bigger course tbh.
i think i'd stick a very very big fluffy sheepskin noseband on though!

He is just in his snaffle (lozange type one)

I now have something to work with, and he felt so much more powerful. You can see why my tainer kept telling me to jump biger, as thats how he is at home. I had a rambo pad and a riser pad and going to get Liz (saddle fitter) out again to make sure soon. Now feel like an intro isnt too far out of our reach

ETA : Good idea about the noseband, have one sitting in a box somewhere...

Oh good for you! So pleased to hear this.

I would stick to the smaller course until you don't have any cat leaps. If you get into a cat leap situation in eg a discovery at a big //, it might not do his confidence much good? It will prob only take another outing or 2?

Well done, Im just a browser here lol but have read your other posts about the problems you've had so lovely to see you have a good ride tody.

I was there too today, you don't know the photographer do you? Im sure I picked up a leaflet but now can't find it!!

What a little star - he looked like a different horse today! Very little arguing/flinging his head about, and a much nicer shape when he got to the fence.
There were two other things I noticed..
first it was outside (no s**t sherlock) in a lovely big arena so he had a bit more space, also you were letting him flow on more (or at least in a less 'dressagey' outline.
Whatever it was, he certainly went 100% better.
Well done again.

What a difference!

He looks much happier cantering around without you asking him to be round in between fences, I have a sneaking suspicion that him stuffing his had up has now become just a bit of a habit, so try not to make an issue about it.
Well done MH for sticking at it, it'll be worth it in the end i'm sure

Well done. I'm so glad he's much more settled now. You rode him really well sitting still and letting him think for himself. Both my horses throw their heads around into the jump but my instructor says to ignore it as the more you make a thing about it the more they are likely to carry on doing it just to annoy you! I think mine are getting better now I'm trying to ignore it, hard as it is.

Looks 100% better. He seems to appreciate being left to think about it himself, which is nice. You always ride him nicel;y, but he is obviously feeling alot better about things now
