sickies from work to spend time with your horse/competiting??

Should I just get on with it?

I don't pull a sickie for anything. Even if I am actually sick, I still get up and try to work. (I live at work)
9 times out of 10 I feel better once I'm in the fresh air, if I don't then I go back in the house knowing that I have at least tried.
If I'm injured then I at least go out and do what I can.
We are a small team of just 3, and 'pulling a sickie' would be unfair and selfish. Especially to go and ride!!!
Living at work, I think I'd be spotted leaving the house anyway!!!

Haven't thrown a sickie, but have gone to the yard if feeling genuinely poorly and have taken the day off as unpaid leave, (I usually make my hours up on a weekend to compensate). As someone else said, the fresh air makes you feel better.

However, I'm lucky in as much that both my bosses are horsey and understand if something is an emergency.

Never pulled a sicky for Arch, I would make the time up for an emergency vet situation though. Although my work will let me be half hour late on the morning my farrier comes, I can work lunch and go early (4.30) when I need too or if I'm riding for someone, oh and they've let me take the days of my BHS exams as unpaid leave! I love my work!

No, definately not. My boss is very flexible so I can arrange time off as I need it for the farrier, vet etc. To then take sickies would be an abuse of this, not to mention not fair to my colleagues.

never done a sickie for neds, my farrier/dentist are happy to do my neds while im at work as they are so well behaved.

I am relied upon to be at work every day and would never pull a sicky unless I was physically unable to get out of bed.

Harsh or not, I am totally in areement with this.

No but i have used doctors appointments for vet appointments and not been specific about which dentist an appointment is with...also have used a doctor appointment fo the farrier..... normally a late in/leave early type thing but 95% of the time would make the time up or they already owe me time.

I don't compete so it does not apply but I do not take sickies to ride.... my work are already kind enough to let me start late as my lad is just coming back from tendon injury and is on controlled exercise and I do not have time to ride before my normal working hours in daylight.

I personally haven't and can't as im the boss,
However one of the girls that worked for me phoned in sick, obviously didn't click that the competition was the same one she was "sick" at.
Bumped into her in the same showing class.
Lets just say she was rather red faced.
Still my horse won the class and she came 6th.
