Just had my sharer of 7 weeks "hand in her notice". Shame really as she was a very good rider. Cannot say I'm surprised as have had it before (with different horse) and heard it anecdotally, they will stick it a couple of months then realise it is too much committment for a horse that isn't their own.

But is it really too much to ask for someone to ride a really well behaved, well schooled horse with no issues whatsoever on full livery for FREE twice a week? No mucking out, only bring in if not in already, groom, tack up and ride and give hard feed afterwards. Excellent hacking and small indoor school to go in. I think it was the lack of jumping that did for this one and she has probably got an offer to ride one that she can jump, but I had hoped she would stay longer.

I actually know what they can be like, so had two decent ones respond at the same time to my ad and took them both on. Fortunately the other one is still with me, if she gives up then I've had it with sharers. Its too much hassle and effort and disruptive to the horse if they are only going to stick it a couple of months.

That sounds like a perfect arrangement to me.

I'm on the look out for a horse to share. I'm obviously expecting to muck out etc but that honestly doesnt bother me.

Did she say why?

hmmm, I would ahve thought sharers would be happy to ride a horse if they don't have one of their own.

I personally woould NEVER ever share one of my horses - people are just too unreliable.

I'm surprised people are not biting your arm off to ride your horse!! To be able to ride a nice horse twice a week for hardly anything in return sounds brillant to me!
I have been a sharer for almost a year but have had to pay £180 (which I didn't mind as the horse was lovely and I could ride as often as I wanted). This has unfortunatley come to an end as the owner had to move.

I've had another offer of a share but they wanted approx £170 for just 2 days, which I just can't justify.

It is hard though trying to find someone who is as commited as you would be, I have my fingers crossed for you!

I've been looking for ages for a horse to excersise, might just stick to college for now as i can never find the right person. I've had two bogus replies, am still working on one, and the other wanted me to ride her horse then elbowed me at the last minute!

Hm, I have always been quite lucky with sharers so far; have just started an arrangement with a new person due to my pregnancy and she proves to be just what I need and is generally interested in the horse not just the riding either, she still wants to come and do her jobs while my girl is off with a virus and is generally just happy to be around the horse no matter what (even though she has only shared her for 2 weeks now) - well, long may it last ...

Sounds like perfect arrangement - would jump at something like that.

I stopped the share I had after the owners removed about 95% of my confidence and treated me like rubbish

I think its because I'm in Aberdeen. When I lived just outside Edinburgh I had a lovely sharer. She paid £80 a month as well. I didnt even bother advertising for a financial contribution here, not even towards shoes. What gets me is that cleaning the tack once a fortnight was part of the deal and only one of them has done it once in the two months, and only then after reminding.

I share a horse and pay half towards livery fees and shoes. Hes currently on full livery but soon changing to DIY. I love just spending time with and it isnt just the riding for me. I think im really lucky to have found jen and Troy

sorry to hear about your sharer

i'm in your camp, good commited sharers are like rocking horse poo in my experience.
Which is such a shame as i offer free riding on two very nicely schooled horses for small amount of little stable duties
