I have just read the thread about TBs and Why? And an awful lot of it sounds similar to my Arab - galloping, spookiness, love, cleverness etc. But I am sure any breed can be made to sound similar by loving owners as these (apart from spookiness) are all positive qualities.

Since TBs are originally derived from Arabs I wondered if they were very similar? I am new to horse owning and so don't have no experience of owning other breeds.

Devoted to one owner, arrogant, aloof, to clever for their own good, strong, amazing endurance, outstandingly beautiful and have influenced the quality of just about every breed in the world.

Sweeping generalistions here but our arabs tend to be all talk and no knickers if they are going to tit around (they will deflate if you just give them a 'look'), whereas our TBs tend to mean it.

But yes, the blood is there and they both have the same fire and passion for life and both breeds display the same loyalty and sensitivity. The OH is a big TB fan and after meeting me also likes arabs now.

Well I have both - an straight egyptian arabian mare (15.3) and an ex racer TB gelding (16.2). I've had my arab a whooooooole lot longer so our bond is unconditional yet Ive only had my TB for a few months (still bonding) but I wouldnt really say they were the same.

My arab is very flighty - a real diva and is really like a big dog :D she follows me EVERYWHERE (no need for headcollars). Every single day no matter where she is she will come full gallop, screaming her head off, prancing, snorting and head rolling until she's been brought in and cuddled. Any strangers though will get completely ignored. To ride - one day she's chilled/bit like a donkey the next she's tiptoeing like a ballerina ... she's not scared of mister loud tractor yet the grid she's been walking past year is still sooooo scary! Any cuts (small or large) that need treating are dealt with complete OTT drama ... arghhhhhhhhhhh dont touch that tiny cut on me evil owner!! One lady on my yard has admitted he's petrified of her due to her very high 'presence'.

My TB came to me with no personality what-so-ever. He'd stand in his stall staring at the wall didnt even look at you - he wouldnt even look up when you shouted him to come in from the field. BUT he was new - now he;s slowly coming round and he will trot over when I arrive and stand at the gate ... he doesnt shy at anything (ever) and he's the most gentle well behaved animal I have met. He has a very calming effect on you and has a 'kind eye'. My partner loves him. He does seem to learn new thing pretty quickly. He did have a nasty cut on the inside of his leg (new horse battle scars) after a week or so that was dealt with like an angel ...

Maybe if I'd had him as long as I'd had my arab things would be different but personality wise ... not at all the same :D

I had a TB...just didn't get on with him at all.

My arab...well- what can I say? He is simply the most beautiful being ever. I have never known a bond or trust like it....he delights me daily.

He will do anything I ask...as long as I ask and don't tell:rolleyes: (few lessons learned there).

I actually laugh out loud riding him :D

I was at that stage before the summer holidays - I had really got to know him and schooled him and found all his swerves and stunts funny. Now after 6 weeks looking after the little children with the occasional rushed ride, I am just beginning to relax into all his prancing and I expect soon I will find it funny!

Our boy is Anglo Arab so have the best of both worlds. Yes I an extremely biased and don't mind admitting it - he is simply gorgeous.

Don't they actually have an extra vertebra hence the high tail carriage?

I had to check, but this is what most, but not all, arabians have according to about a dozen links I found:

Arabian horses have a unique skeletal structure among the world's equines. The breed has 17 ribs, 5 lumbar bones and 16 tail vertebrae. Most horses have 18 ribs, 6 lumbar bones and 18 tail vertebrae.

What always intrigues me is do some partbreds also have the same skeletal structure or not?

Glad you said that, as the proud owner of a part bred, would love to know! Was too embarassed to ask if they could count them for me when she was in newmarket recently!

(Guess they have more important things to do too! :S)
