All,

I've posted on here before as my lab has history of lameness in her front left leg - she was joint tapped and x-rayed at 8-9 months and nothing found. The first instance followed a playful, but hefty knock by my mums bull mastiff - not sure if this has triggered something?

She is 3 1/2 years old now, and she hurt herself over the winter, and had to have one weeks rest, and came sound.
However shes' now regularily slightly unlevel on the near fore a couple of times a week (it really is very slight), and usually after excessive play and running after balls.
She has also had 2 episodes this year, where going after a ball she was hopping lame for a couple of strides and walked it off (cue further rest). It's always the same leg.

The vet has manipulated the joint, and doesn't feel any abnormalities, and she doesn't resist the manipulation, so for that reason i'm not keen to put her through an x-ray so the vet has suggested trying Sinoquin - he also suspects we probably won't see very much on x-ray as the lameness is slight. He says if she improves it will give us an answer, if not then we'll x-ray.

Does anyone think this is a sensible approach, as I know nothing about Sinoquin, and don't know whether I should tackle it via another method.

PS she's fully insured for life - but don't want to excessively test if not necessary

My lab started going a bit lame behind after being taken for really long walks or excessive playing, running and turning after a ball (sometimes she was hopping). I have fed Synoquin and Cosequin to both of my horses and I found that cosequin was better for the horses so I used it on my lab. Since she has been on it, we haven't had one day's lameness.
p.s. I used the dog version for her not the horse one lol

Or Seroquin? My pup with HD is on it, as is the big dog (arthtitis). I think they contain turmeric, which is getting rave reviews currently for arthritis/stiffness.

Oi you - don't confuse this anymore lol!! I didn't know about that one and now I might have to search all about it!! Only the best for my girl!!! :)

oh bl00dy he!!, there's loads - it's a minefield.
Don't get me started on horse suppliments...... Shetlands just been diagnosed with early Cushings, starting Prascend but don't know where to start (or bother) with supporting suppliments

If you do some research on absorbsion of GL and CD in dogs you will find that in order for it to be fully effective it needs to be liquid form.

It needs to be at least 98% pure liquid glucosamine.
It can also contain some of the other anti inflammatory ect like Chondroitin, omega 3's Vitamin A

I'm told that the ones with -quin on the end have better bioavailability for dogs. You need to start with a loading dose (I use Seraquin, 2g dose from Hypervet-they accept Paypal!) which goes down after 6 weeks or so. I think any of them would be fab and I've also had rave reviews about mobile bones from pooch and mutt.

I use mobile bones on our lab, who has lameness very like yours. We were recommended it by the lab rescue people, who said they'd used it a lot with fab results. Over the winter it cleared up 95% of her lameness. It did come back slightly with the hot weather - which has led me to wonder if its her pads that are hurting.

I must admit, I asked my vet if he thought it could be in her toe.
My lab has a misaligned toe on each of her front feet. The claws don't wear at all so I have to clip them on these particular toes (no-one notices it unless I point it out) all other claws are straight and wear properly.
I asked my vet about her feet and he didn't think it was likely.
I'm also relying on the fact that historically she has definitely had shoulder / elbow pain, and showed resistance when manipulated on the occasion she was taken to the vet for the lameness.
Her parents have very low hip and elbow scores although accept it's not always a guarantee.
I shall give it a go and keep on with the research.
Thankyou for all your informative posts. I love thee forum when its like this ..... You're all so helpful :-)

Our lab was lame from a pup nothing ever showed on xrays either, we gave her 6 months of sinoquin as prescribed by our vet with no difference at all. I started getting desperate and changed to Joint Aid for Dogs (because I knew someone who worked there and they kept telling me that they were getting good results/feedback) she has never been lame in the 5 yrs since I started using it!!
