SJ Trainers - A3 Hampshire/Surrey

Are you looking for someone with a yard or someone who teaches regularly in the area? What sort of level?

Seb is a lovely rider and comes highly recommended. Another option is Keith Doyle over near Yately, Hampshire.
 
Paul Crago has a very good reputation, BS recommended him when my friend rang for someone to give her daughter lessons.

I didn't know you went to Seb! Would you say we have relatively compatible styles? I was interested when I first saw him teach as the French School in the basis for the American School and I was entertained by how familiar it was . . .
 
Oops sorry, that was probably one for a PM!

Charlotte Uden? She's young and not the biggest but is a nice rider and seems well educated.

Worth asking Corinne Bracken as she teaches a lot in the area (including Seb sometimes) so would probably be able to steer you to a good fit.
 
I'd echo Keith Doyle for SJ.
I used to go to him regularly when I used to live that way. He was excellent.

Yep, he was coming once a week until the spotty one had his temporary blip...a fortnight ago? Will resume when I get back from NV.

I would say pretty compatible - but maybe you should give me a jump lesson just to check :p

Interesting - have been looking for somewhere I coud box Large Orange Horse too for a few lessons so we get used to going places - and Sebs name had came up a few times... :) Will PM you AZ if tht's ok? :)
 
Wow - thanks everyone. Seb comes up a lot and having watched him on the circuit he is a rider I respect. Thanks very much, I will investigate a little more.

I have also been told to consider Anna Austin - has anyone got any experience of her teaching?

Ideally, I would like someone locally who could come to my yard and teach as I have two horses so would be easier than loading up, travelling etc. Also someone who on occasions could come to a show and help warm up, walk the course, offer advice etc.

As always wanting the world!!
 
Probably worth a call to see how far the various suspects travel - you never know! Obviously it would be helpful if whomever you chose is doing more or less the same shows and you're planning on anyway. It doesn't seem to be so much the fashion here for people to go to shows with their trainers! :)
 
Bit of this, bit of that. . .;)

Seriously, my core competencies are young/green horses, re training and 'problem solving'. I have a fair competition background, originally eventing, more recently sj but I am by no means a 'sj trainer' as an area of speciality. If your goal is to go out and jump big courses, any of the above mentioned would be good choices as their focus is competition. If you have a problem you want to solve and/or advice on something specific ie walking courses, optimising flat work etc I would probably be more help to you. :)
 
carl belson. Corinne Bracken trains the british junior and young rider team and teaches at parwood and thundry, she is very busy though and recommends Carl to people, he is very good if u want a one to one.
 
oh and forgot to say think carls depth of knowledge would poss be larger than seb. He is an accredited bsja coach and teaches the junior accademy and has also evented well, in his younger day.
 
I always have time for Seb. Corriene bracken is also very good. Sally thurloway has been brilliant when I've had her with all my youngsters and makes loads of sense.

I had lessons with Carl a few years ago, very good rider and trainer but not as 'sympathetic' in his style as some IMO, great if you want pushed but maybe not ideal if you need to build confidence. I did learn plenty though :)
 
Would Seb be happy teaching me and my big cob or is he more for the serious jumper? We were competing upto 2'9 sometimes 3' and he does enjoy his jumping but we are by no means show jumpers. Sorry for jumping on the post but I also wondered if anyone knew if any joint SJ clinics/lessons took place in the area? Thank you
