Skinnies @ XC

For a skinny you need a very collected canter and be in absolute control. If its small enough a trot is sometimes better depending on what pace the horse prefers.

When you go into it you need to be completely straight so make sure your horse doesn't drift to the side a few strides out or gets 'wobbly' on approach.

It might be good having a practice at home with barrels so you can start with wider skinnies and gradually start building them smaller and smaller. :)

Just take it easy, speed isn't the key.

Start off small, so just trot up to it. Make sure you keep the horse between the hand and leg.
If this doesn't work, walk up to a small fence, within a few strides up to the fence when the horse has hopefully locked on, kick on.

Don't give them time to think with huge run up, but obviously this is withing reason, just make sure there straight.

Also put up side rails to encourage them not to run out.

^^This :) Practice makes perfect, so does confidence :) x

Start with not-too-skinny skinnies and work down. Always do small things that you can push them over from a standstill if need be - come in very slowly in trot, with a good contact and strong leg.
