Zoom has always been a good-doer considering she's full tb. She lived out unrugged and unfed before I had her and the grazing isn't great! Anyway, she has been clipped out the last two winters but has still lived out well-rugged and fed once a day (in fact she had to have 'pretend' breakfast when Monty had his otherwise she would gain too much!). She was looking great a month ago, but then we lost Monty :(

She stressed for a couple of days but then seemed fine. BUT the weight just fell off her :( I upped her feed and started giving her two feeds a day and she is also having hay by herself in the afternoon in case she isn't getting enough in the field (Monty was quite bossy with the others and so I wonder if she is being bullied).

Anyhoo, I rode this morning and took some photos afterwards. What do you think? She has put some on in the last week.

I also have some pink powder that I bought for Monty. Is it worth giving her this?? I have started her on a herbal calmer and magnesium (she usually has magnesium for headshaking so I've started it early).

Thanks

Poor Zoomy :(

She does ook quite tucked up; not serious or anything. I'd def. put on the pink powder, and (if it were me) change from alfa a to alfa oil, if you aren't already on something similar.

I don't think she's looks that bad tbh. I think they can all tend to look a little ropey this time of year due to being end of winter and no good grass yet.

I would give her a go on the pink stuff though :)

I know photos make it really hard to show how thin a horse is but tbh I think she looks really good coming out of winter. If you compared her with some of ours that haven't wintered well you would consider her to be positively fat! She looks in good condition and doesn't appear to need much if any weight on as the spring grass is starting to come through and it will come on naturally in a few weeks. It looks like you have done a good job keeping her in condition over a terrible winter.

She's a bit ribby but not really bad (Charlie is looking worse!).

It shouldn't be long until the grass comes through so she should pick up quite quickly but I would put her on Pink powder for a little while as that will just give her a helping hand :)

Thanks guys. I've just been panicking a bit since she is usually the easiest to keep weight on!! I will start pink powder tomorrow and keep the militant feeding regime and hopefully she'll pick up.

It's an extra worry since her work load is going to dramatically increase as we have a busy spring planned!

She looks absolutely fine to me. Two of mine look like this at the moment and I am quite happy with that as they are bound (despite my best efforts!) to put on more weight as the grass arrives!

To be fair I really dont think she looks bad, sometimes TB's can look fab one day and skinny the next, but I don't think she looks bad x

I don't think she looks bad at all, i would imagine if your used to her keeping weight so well she looks worse to you than she actually is! Iwouldn't worry, just keep doing what your doing as it's clearly working :)

She's fine! You're doing a great job, this is always the worst time of year coming out of the winter and she looks good for your regime. Keep up the good work!

Maybe I was just being panicky. I guess I am so used to constantly worrying about Monty I find it wierd not to be worried about something! Thanks for the support, horses are so stressful!

I Dont Think Hes Looking Too Bad Actually, Especially For This Time Of Year (My Mare Is Slightly Worse) But Yeah I Agree With What Everyone Else Is Saying :) Hopefully The Good Grass Will Help x

I agree with everyone else, she is doing great considering she has lost her friend.

I would definitely be giving her the pink powder, it worked really well with my little OAP.

Give it a month, I bet you'll have a different horse!

cosidering she is a full TB and has lived out fully clipped shes looking pretty good. We have an x race horse that lives out because it just cant handle life in a stable, He has 2 large feeds a day and has his full winter coat and is looking a lot more ropey than your horse! He picks up as soon as the grass starts to grow, it seems to be a little late coming through this year
