After I turned my horse out this morning I realised one of the other horses had let himself out his stable and was running round loose in the pouring rain in his stable rug. I did my best to catch him but even with a bucket of food I couldn't get near him.

Anyway, the owner and her mother turned up and I explained what had happened. The girl then showed her mother how she puts the kick bolt on every night so her horse couldn't have let himself out and her mother said "well if it happens again we'll know someone is playing silly buggers"
Only my friend and I are at the yard later than this girl - so it seems like her mother is suggesting one of us must have undone the bolt. After all that must be a more likely explanation than she simply forgot! I've obviously got nothing better to do than let her horse out and run around in the pouring rain trying to catch it.

Sorry for bit of a rant - I was just a bit gobsmacked by the mother's attitude, although at least she did later thank me for trying to catch him.

Naughty mother - my daughter is 13 and most of the time forgets things, like the tap, the kick bolt, my penknife on the trailer, shutting the trailer door, etc etc this is CONSTANT

I guess at least she thanked you later so she was backing down.

Don't you just love 'erm!

I would have said 'Yes! I let your horse out so I could chase it round the yard......Not'

Doesn't necessarily mean that she thinks it is you - they could think kids or teenagers are breaking into the yard and letting the horses out.

But agree that it is more likely the girl forgot to secure the door properly!

some people are immediately defensive when they realise they may of made a mistake and try to cover it up - I wouldn't take it personally.

People are mad - the last woman at r yard put her horse in then only did the top bolt up. The CCTV shows him undoing it and spending the night in the carpark but she is still trying to take legal action over it saying someone must have let him out and modified the tape!!!

Sounds like a nutter! Try telling her it was the invisible pixies that did it - after all every yard has them. They're the ones that move stuff, borrow stuff, leave poo in the school etc etc.
At least it would give her solicitor a laugh if she did take legal action

LOL might try that - she's def trying to sue because she doesn;t want to pay her bill. She owes two months part livery.
