I'm pleased to report.... no more incidents!!! Would it be very wrong of me to joke that my vet is on about cancelling his carrabean holiday due to lack of income this last week???

Little girly is doing well, am thrilled with her

When she was in the vets they put her on science plan prescription food, prior to that I had her on Iams which she picked at but kept her weight with, but have kept her on the science plan because I didnt want to change her back dramatically. However, it gives her terrible wind

her bottom smells like ... God knows what, it just stinks!!! She has a lovely shiny soft coat and good skin so its obviously not doing her too much harm, but I'd like to change her to something different as she clearly just has a sentitive wee tummy. I'm all for as natural a diet for her as possible. My dads dogs always ate cooked meat daily... chicken, liver, rabbit etc with a working dog mix. I've heard mixed reports on this and wondered if its true that a completely home made diet would be too fattening for her??
My breeder uses Iams and has done for years. Dad said to try JWB. Is it really that good for sensitive tummies?? She likes any dried food to be wetted down, can you do that with JWB??

also, is there anywhere online that I can buy an english leather TAN collar?? My tackshop sells the cheapy ones but I wanted a nice proper leather one for her. And the little lights you get for collars so you can see them in the dark??

I got the flashy lights for Henry from a petrol station, and I'd try Ebay for a collar, there are a couple of sellers that make them to meaure - or someone on here has an OH that makes them, I think it might be Equss Leather (OK, how do you spell that username?????

Don't know much about feeding by GSD gets worse wind than my husband on the wrong food, he is currently on a mix of chudleys senior and autarky (i mix them up in a huge bin, I'd go nuts eating the same food every day!) and his stomach is the best it's ever been. I love Autarky, and he has the loveliest coat on it too, pretty cheap, about £17 per 15kg bag which I think is very reasonable. I used to feed JWB but that made him really smelly and he used to eat his own poo!

As an aside, Asdas have a brilliant price on Iams at the moment, reduced form £8 a bag to £4, bargain for anyone that does feed Iams!

Harvey's on JWB. Nice solid poops, eats it readily (the food not his poop) and is steadily gaining weight.

I have had to stick to the Turkey and Rice though as the Duck and Rice, it seems, gave him the squits.

Is Rosie still hogging the fire?

yes she is.... happily demolishing a kong stuffed with scrambled egg

I've turned the heat off and just got the flame flickering and she's daft enough to think it's still going

I've learnt you can not only freeze kongs for the summer time, but also microwave them too (if you stuff one end with biscuit, pour egg mixture in, stand upright in a cup and microwave them it makes one very healthy treat). It takes her hours to get through an egg kong

Good to hear no more incidents. Its very much an individual preference to feeing dogs. With home cooked diets, its not so much them being fattening, more that its harder for people to get the right nutritional balance to ensure the dog is getting all the right minerals and vitamins.

I'm not so much a fan of JWB. Have a look at http://www.dogfoodanalysis.com They only get a 3Star, out of 6Stars. Main ingredient of any diet should be "meat". Have a look at the ingredients and you'll find that a lot are less than 30% meat, and some canned food can be as little as 4% meat.

I have my 2 on Orijens which they love, and this is made up of 70% meat and 30% Fruit/ Vegetables. No grains/ cereals either, which is not a natural ingredient of dogs. I also feed mine raw chicken wings for breakfast - yummy yummy.

For collars, I have mine from http://www.annrees.co.uk/dogs/collars/dog_collars_classic.htm Lovely collars made to order, therefore she will custom make what you are looking for.

Looking at my packets of JWB Puppy, they state 30% meat on all three flavours, not 21% as the site suggests...although I accept that is adult food no doubt. Some of the others I looked at were 21, 25 and 27%.

The Orijen Puppy, whilst higher than my packets of JWB at 40% is rather some way short of 70%.

For me, I went with JWB because it was the best food I could source without paying a premium for "special" order at the feed merchants.

Think you need to take the website as a guideline like you say as different versions will have different values, and then look at individual manufacturers for the actual correct information. Orijen Puppy is 75% meat, and thier Large Puppy is 70% meat (www.orijenpetfoods.co.uk).

I find it all very confusing as their own website ingredients does say 40% protein..which most of us in layman's terms view as the meat content.

I'm not in any way saying it's not a good dog food, but I'm shocked on that site at how they poorly rate alot of the brands that lots of people, far more knowledgeable than myself, on here will recommend.

QR, thats the thing, I want as natural a diet as possible, and looking in the feed merchants even some which claim to be 100% natural have cereal in them, which is kind of misleading as okay they dont have additives but cereal isnt natural to a dog... like meat isnt natural to a horse. So I'm after something which contains least cereal I suppose and no additives. But on the flipside cereal,I suppose, is gentle and would help with a delicate tummy??
Theoretically, I'm home all day so could easily feed meat from the butchers (ours does offcuts and bits for dogs) but would worry about her having all the goodness a growing pup requires and also making her bottom smell less

(it really is offensive!) . I also find iams makes her very thirsty. We have the JWB puppy treats which she wont eat, so wondered if the food (I mix 10% wet into dry) was any more appetising? If it's something she'll eat, and is good for her then I'm happy to change over. The only wet food she'll eat is a pate, which means ceasar or natures diet.

Yes, that is very confusing. I think manufacturers need to be clearer on the actual ingredients (in laymans terms "meat", and the nutritional values (protein etc).

If a dog is happy and healthy in what its fed, then thats the main thin

Have you thought about RAW feeding?

Really is great for dogs with sensitive tummys and they love it takes them much longer to eat and they are satisfied for much longer.

My JRT Ozzie is on a mix of JWB senior/light and Natures diet (light). He looks great on it, eats it all and has stopped farting! He is still windy after a raw hide chew - so he only gets those when I'm working nights.
