Anyone who uses slug pellets in their gardens and has dogs, especially young pups, just a warning for you.
Sadly, one of our labrador pups that we sold has died recently, she was 15 weeks old. The owner had been using (supposedly) dog safe slug pellets in the garden, which pup had been eating over the weeks they had her. She eventually became very sick and had to be rushed to the emergency vets, but after trying to hours to get her through it she finally gave in
The PM confirmed that she died due to ingesting the slug pellets.
Owners are understandably devestated, as am I as that puppy should have had a long life and it just isnt fair. We always advise people against using rat poisons/plant fertilisers anywhere near where their pups will go, you'd think it was common sense but a lot of people do put things in their gardens when they have dogs. Its frustrating when people wont listen when you've told them this though. These owners said they will never use the pellets again - bit late for the puppy!!!!
If anyone DOES use any kind of poisons in their gardens please PLEASE stop. The poor puppy died a horrible death that was entirely avoidable. I'd rather have a garden full of ruined plants than a dead pup - ANY DAY!!!
