Just got back from a Hack and noticed that my horse has had a small nose bleed, we were out for about 35 minutes, road work so just walking and trotting.

The blood was in just one nostril, was dark red and was sort of splattered around it rather then just trickling down!

Should I be worried?

He's out in the field now with a feed and seems quite happy, but I can't help worrying :o

I would keep an eye on it and see if it happens again, keep a diary even if it is once in a blue moon. It could be nothing, but if it were to happen again soon, I would have a chat with the vets.

sounds like he's burst a capillary in his nose. Keep an eye on him, when he puts his head down to drink/eat if any more comes out. If not, dont worry, its probably just the cold putting extra strain on the blood vessels, if more does come out it could be a bleed further down in his lungs. Depending on how much and what you want to do with the horse etc it could be worth a course of marbysyl or similar to 'clean him up' inside. Lots of racehorses bleed BADLY ( and i mean covering themselves) and are still able to race and win so its certainly no the end of the world, just something to be aware of.
Dont panic!!! its more common than you think:D

mine does this, one nostril tiny amount not always after hardwork. i can do a light hack and it happens or event and it doesnt  but he does snort a lot (arab) so probably a burst capillary. So far vet says not to worry
