hi all i have a 2 year-old greyhound whose:eek: breath is disgusting and his teeth are not nice.i have tried brushing them, special bones,charcoal tablets you name it it dont make a difference,he doesn't eat meat he as a greyhound complete.thing is i have 2 lurcher's who are fine and they eat the same,any tips please:eek:
 
A vet check up first, then a change in diet, what suits one dog doesn’t always suit others, raw meaty bones will help with cleaning. A product called plaque off is very good, and all natural also. At only two his teeth should be pristine, so a check with the vet will rule out health issues.

Does he chew his food?

Is worming up to date? Worms can cause bad breath but obviously wouldn’t cause plaque so there may be a few problems going on.
 
yes he does chew his food.up to date with worming.i was told,:rolleyes: dont know if its true that greyhounds with having a longer jaw are prone to this :confused:

It is a breed thing yes, but it can be helped, will never be 100% though since he is having problems already, does he have things to chew on at the mo?

Try Nylabones, they do different strength, depending on how tuff a chewer he is, they are flavoured so encourage them to chew and are not edible.

Also if you can get them, a company called Antos do Rice bones, they are very hard and just made of rice. I would defo try plaque off, its around £11 but will last approx 6 months, our vets swear by it and is natural seaweed, the scoop is smaller than a 5p so even fussy dogs take to it he would need 2-3 scoops a day.
 
We get bones from the butcher once a week and it keeps their teeth in great condition. We avoid the big leg bones and tend to go for ribs - usually lamb. We even give them to the puppies. We just separate any of the ones that are likely to try and pinch someone elses when they are finished!!

thats the thing with the whole bone issue.i have 3 dogs all male who are very good together sleep together etc but they just dont do bones together :) at all
 
If you only have 3 then should be easy to separate them. It really does make a huge difference if you feed real bones regularly, and they are free. These shop bought things (dentasticks??) are useless.
 
I have given my dogs bones a couple of times but so scared they would choke on them and they splintered. Which bones do you recommend?

Also if your greyhounds mouth is smelly as the others have said you will need to get the vet to take a look, sometimes its just bacteria.
