How do you keep your riding hat from smelling like death? I wash my hat liner as often as I can but my hat still pongs! Its not old and well ventilated!

Mine is the same!! I put a small 'panty liner' across the forehead part of the hat to absorb the sweat. I give mine a good old spray with zeflora & body spray ;)
Also let it dry out when you've finished riding nothing worse than shoving it in a box/draw and letting the smell fester!

Mine is a middle of the range hat from Decathlon; moderately well ventilates with a removable liner. The next layer is fairly stiff polystyrene which is pretty much impermeable to moisture, so all the sweat stays in the liner and in my hair (what's left of it).

The combination of physical effort and concentration makes my head sweat a lot, and coupled with warm weather I sometimes have trickles running into my eyes.

I don't always find time to take out the liner and wash it straight after riding, but I always hang it up in the garage to air it. I think I probably take out the liner and wash it with liquid hand soap once every four or five outings, and yes, it smells a bit bad, but inly if you stick your nose in there; you wouldn't be able to smell it just walking past me.

I fear I would forget and somehow end up at work with a pantyliner stuck to my head!!

I use a hat deodorant when it gets a bit wiffy ! Panty liner, hahah.

I know i sound like a nutter but it works! I was getting little 'sweat spots' on my forehead, now they are no more ;)
I'm on about the tiny thin pads not your super heavy always nappy type haha!

I use foot spray in mine! If you look on ebay you can get 'drybrow hat liners' at 10 for £8.00. No space between dry and brow when you put it in the search.

that's brilliant - rest of the yard are going to think I'm mad keeping a packet of those in my box alongside the nappies and Guinness.

I throw my hat liner in the washing machine :o it de-mings it better than me handwashing it, and then seems to stay fresher for longer. I have a gatehouse hat, I hate it but I do like being able to get it clean.

I think I may get a couple more liners in that case and get machine washing it everyday! Ugh sweaty smelly heads, really aren't a nice look!

None of my hats have had removable liners. I get the hat before it is smelly, get a solution of Pevadine, fill the hat, let the Pevadine soak in, tip out and dry on a warm, sunny day.

Never had a smelly hat since! I think the Pevadine kills the bacteria as soon as they think about breeding.

Of course, this is only what I do, I would never recommend soaking a hat in case it then fell apart.

I do mine as I reckon they are rain safe and sweat safe, so I am happy to put Pevadine in mine.

Wet wipes! Just run one round the inside of your hat as soon as you take it off. I keep wet wipes in the lorry, and in my grooming kit. Hat smells great even in this weather!

I do this too with my gatehouse. I had another hat and it only lasted 3 months even though it was ventilated and I used hat deoderiser on it so it was back to a gatehouse with a liner.

I use Whicker hat liners. I bought a pack at Royal Windsor several years ago and they have been an excellent investment!
