Please help! All the mares are starting to come in season again and the flies are coming also and my horse likes nothing more to mount them all. They all seem to enjoy it too. I don't mind cos it keeps him quite muscular with all this daily romping activity but there is one big problem. His sheath is just constantly dirty. I cleaned it the other day with this special sheath cleanser with all natural ingredients, it was meant to be non-irritant. All week he has been swolen and has now developed lumps all around the area. I keep washing it with clean warm water (Which he likes!
) to try and clear it up. I have never had this problem with any other horses, I rarely clean their sheaths only with water if they are a bit manky. But he really needed it, its' not like its his willy that is dirty when it is out
is it when it is away. It all the folds and creases and stuff. Its like grey creamy ick in the crevasses and when he lies down it goes on his legs. It also smells awful and the flies seen to be really attracted to it which doesn't help. When it drys on his legs, it is a nightmare to get off. Sorry to gross everybody out, it is a bit hard to explain, hehe.
What do you think is the best thing to do, try some different willy wash, or leave it or sit for ages with a bucket of water trying to soak it all away, it just seems to come back quite quick. I asked the vet if it was infected when she vaccinated the other week and she said it was normal and he just needs it washing regularly?
But I don't want to make him even more sore. BTW he is good with me washing it, he really enjoys it lol, he spends most of his life with it out, he is just a sexual kinda horse lol
