Now im really peeved off as i wrote a whole post and then my laptop decided to be an idiot - it is not my day today!

Anyway, been advertising pony for a while now and after seeing the 'Not A Novice Ride' thread, i changed my advert.
Have since been bombarded with, "Hw mch th pny?" (does your keyboard not have any vowels!?!)
Was talking to a lovely lady who has since decided she is not experienced enough as he bucks (although it says that in the advert), shame as she seemed really lovely.
On one of his adverts, i put 'offers' instead of a price as it seems that no one responded at the price he was at, i was then being offered ridiculous prices.
Also keep getting, "will you loan?", "will you LWVTB?" etc. NO! he is FOR SALE.

I keep getting messages just asking for price or saying how lovely he is but no one wants to come and see him :(

I have a two page thing to send to people if they ask for more info, stating how i got him, why i got him, what he did before, what he is doing now, what he is good at, what he isnt good at etc.

Maybe he is overpriced, i dont know, doesnt seem it to me or is it that people want great ponies for little money?

This is really getting frustrating now, the longer i have him, the more attached to him i get, but i know i he has to go. Its costing me so much in adverts too, £100 so far and no calls, all messages are coming from the free websites, bit gutting really.

Sigh, sorry for the rant. Long day, tired, brain mushed. Cheap vino currently on the go and hoping for snow so that i dont have to go to uni and get a lie in!

Feel free to pm me a link to his advert to browse over as a second pair of eyes. However I think this is the current climate. A friend has exactly the same problems for her saint of a horse. One lady saw lots of photos, came and saw him, loved him, then phoned later to declare she wouldn't have him as he has two blue eyes and horses with.blue eyes are blind! Um yes whatever because oh of course he's blind that's why he took you safely round the arena, out hacking and jumped fences *sigh*

Agree with this and happy to offer eyes too.

I think time of year doesnt help. Why not put offers around £x then people have an idea of what you are looking for. I must admit I wouldnt enquire about an ad with no price on it unless the horse sounded absolutely perfect.

Could you offer a short LWVTB of say a month but to stay at current yard?

so far the info I have gleaned is that there is no price and your horse bucks. Both would put me off!

I would have a long think about which market you are aiming him for, price bracket etc. Then put your ad to one side and spend say 30 minutes browsing horsequest, horse and hound, horsemart, horsedeals for exactly the same horse. Make a note of the ads that jumped out at you and why. Then change your ad to reflect that. I am a little narrow in my field of experience as I look at eventers, but for me an ad that jumped out would show the following. Clear details on height age and breeding (a lot leave you guessing the first 2 which is annoying). Details of what the horse has done, so happily jumping x at home competing at x competitively, and ditto for dressage etc. A list of what the horse has done competition wise, hunting, etc is also helpful. I actually would not put in that the horse bucks as most people (or is it just me?) would assume the absolute worse and as I am sure you know there is a wealth of difference between a horse that humps a little to one that goes flat out to get you off.Anyway good luck, the threat of snow won't have helped your cause either so take that into consideration. Spring IS coming and the market will then pick up!

I never even read an ad that doesn't have a price on - to my mind POA means I can't afford it and 'Offers' means you are desperate but I wouldn't know how much to offer.
I sold a fantastic pony last summer for £1000, half what she was worth but it was the only price that got me any interest.

I too hate adverts that have no price on them.

It might also be a good idea to have an open mind about LWVTB or perhaps a trial period of a set amount of time especially as it is a pony and therefore more likely to be ridden by a child. Please PM me the details if you like of the advert

Well I have been looking for a horse to buy and cant tell you how annoying it is from a buyers perspective.
Firstly, I have emailed 3 without prices all have come back with prices between 20-30k  for nice but average horses. I have now decided to completely discount anything without a price.
Secondly, another several I have messaged have not come back to me at all...ever and then I have seen that they have updated their ads? (I do use vowels in my messages aswell).
Thirdly, I cant believe the rubbish some people put, I would much rather an honest write up than the generic 'lots of potential', 'will excel in any sphere' etc, if people could just put what they have done I could make an informed decision not just write them off as never done anything but may well do ok in dressage if you can ride like Carl Hester

Anyway if I saw a well worded as with photos stood up and under saddle and also videos are really helpful, even if I have to email for them, I would be more inclined to call.

I think the bucking might be the issue, especially if its a smaller pony. One with a good record that throws in an excited buck every so often I wouldn't mention in an ad, I'd just describe it as a second pony. But if I saw an ad for a green pony, or one that's not done anything for ages, my first thoughts would be its an unresolved pain issue, or if young that its been badly broken & needs restarting, either way a big reschooling job & possible health problems. So I'd only be interested if it was a project for peanuts.

This is making me worry. I have an ad up at the moment with no price. I need to move this mare on to a good home so didnt want to put people off if they think I want too much. I also didnt want to price too low and have the kind of people that just want a near enough freebie. i have had 4 enquiries in the first week and one of those does seem the sort of long term home I would like.
So what price should I ask ? She is 13hh 14yrs allrounder with a few quirks. She needs one to one for the best of her. I would be happy with £500 which pretty much covers her tack but am worried that she will just be sold straight on. I cant risk loaning as we have 7 now and wont be able to take her back. Such a dilemma.
Jut want somebody to see what a star she is

What market are you aiming at? I've just sold a cracking pony club pony but I advertised her in September and priced her for the current market and the fact I was selling her at the end of the Summer holidays. I also let her go on trial as they were local but if that's not possible maybe offer a month's loan at your own yard. That way at least you can cover your livery costs while they ensure it's the right pony for them.

No prices in ads, not full details, if you ask you get sometimes answer how, do you would make a vetting?
All in all it is time of the year and often a seller which are prepared to cheat not all sellers

I think I've seen your pony advertised on my facebook (small world lol!)

Good luck in selling he looks super! I can sympathize when loaning out my super mare a couple of years ago. The majority of people who contacted me were under 14. I got fed up with asking them if I could talk to their mum....

Thanks for your replies guys.

sorry, i need to add that my advert doesnt just say he bucks - i have said everything he has done, ridden by young people etc but can buck occasionally although never nasty. There are also videos on youtube of him.

Pics are of him on lunge, schooling, jumping, hacking and one for conformation depending on where i am advertising.
I removed price as i had no interest when the price was up, so thought maybe, people may message wanting to know more - i thought wrong.

Pony is advertised on PC Classified and horsemart as well as preloved and of course, FB. Was also advertised on H&H and Horse Deals. but they ended in December.

I have looked on all websites for the same breed, height and experience and he is (to me) advertised at a reasonable price, lower than alot of others. I do understand the current market is appalling.

Thankyou to those who offered to have a look at my adverts, will send you the link. Ive sold many horses before (my own and for my work) and never found it this bad. :(

PS - he will definately being going on trial first - i dont just want rid and want to make sure he finds a lovely home and that he is suitable for his new owners. I may have to consider a 1month lwvtb at this rate, although this would be a last resort, i dont want any joy riders!
