We have had our new horse for about two months now and she has settled lovely. She is 17h Irish Sport (very big boned) and she is an absolute pleasure. I bought her for me and my daughter to share and it is working so well. If I don't feel up to going to the yard if I am knackered, I just drop her off and we share the load.

A lot of people were skeptical of us buying such a big horse but she has the most gentle nature and a really safe ride, although forward going. Today I was down a narrow pathway in the woods and a man on bike rode past, I had to pull to one side and he was about a foot away (I thought I might end up in the bush lol) and she just looked at him with interest and stood still bless her.

Yesterday my daughter walked her through the village and she stopped for children to stroke her. She lowered her head and let a little girl stroke all her face and apparently she had a good hold on her nostrils, saying horsey. Nina just stayed there with her ears forward.

I am trying to figure out the best bedding to use still and how to go with it as she is a very wet horse and treads her poo into the wee, lovely. She is eating a whole bale of hay a day, but she needs it being so big love her.

I feel so blessed, I feel like I have won the lottery find such a wonderful gentle soul.

I will post some pics when I figure out how to do it lol. Yeah my hay bill is big. I was going through 3 hunters a week as well, but I am trying to deep pile it now and see if this helps a bit. When I bought her the dealer had just stuck a pair of front shoes on her without the feet even being trimmed, crazy. My yard is so good, it's Budges in Harold Wood Essex, everyone really helpful. I have been given two rugs by my stable neighbour already.

Considering I am inexperienced in horse buying I feel that I have been very lucky indeed. Needless to say I wear a body protector at all times incase I fall from such a height.

Claire, I have replied on your livery post but for some reason it has not appeared. Well done for hitting the jackpot with your new mare . I would not be inclined to move yards to save a few pounds. You can't put a price on being on a happy, helpful, yard with everyday turnout. Good luck

I totally agree with that. The yard is amazing, it's funny how things work out, we found it by pure chance. My stable neighbour is a dressage diva with a fresian cross conomara and she is an amazing dressage rider and an instructor. Every time I hop on she gives me advice for about half an hour at the side of the arena (free lessons yippeeee).
