Well at 10pm on Friday night a friend said she was going to a show on Sat and did I want to take one of my boys along. Friend was taking her mare so I desided it would be best to take Merryn ;)
I washed his mane and tail at 7am Sat morning and got him all ready to go. We were ment to be leaving at 8:30 but friend wasn't ready till 9:05.
I lead Merryn to the lorry wondering if he would load. The only time we have put him in the lorry was almost 2 years ago when we went to pick him up. I needent have worried as he barged me out the way in his rush to get into the lorry. :D
Then friends mare refused to go in. :( I waited and my hopes of going to the show were slipping away, when finaly at about 9:45 the mare went in. :) We set off in abit of a hurry as our classes were at 10:30. Luckly the show was just up the road. so not far to travel. But the journy wasn't good due to rushing and Merryn crashed around abit.
We arrived at the show and jumped out to go and enter while the lorry was parked. I rushed back to the lorry, got Merryn off and hurried to the ring as his class was about to start.
I took him into the new forest 4 years and over inhand class. It was a big class. Merryn walked round like a star. Trotted when we were ment to and stood still when I asked him. :D
We came last, The judge said he was abit tucked up. I explained all the stress and said I also had to keep him in a slim condition as he was a laminitic. (The class was full of obiece ponies many verging on laminitas :( So I was fully expecting to come last) I'm still so very proud of MrMerryn he was so well behaved and I couldn't have asked anymore of him. It was asif he had been showing his whole life :D
He loaded like a star to come home as well :D
I love the orange one so much. He's not bad for a freebe ;) :p :D
A little video of Merryn at the show.

Thankyou for reading. :D xx

Well done, sounds like a very stressful morning, but what a good lad he was!

Judge is a knob for placing the obese horses and not kicking them out of the class though

Thankyou. He was such a star and a winner in my heart :D He had afew admierers outside the ring.
I did find the fat ponies so sad but there is no way I'm making my ponies fat just so I can win ribbons. I'll keep taking my fit healthy ponies out and have fun with them :D and hopefuly one day the showing world will see the light and understand what damage they are doing to there ponies by letting them get so fat :(

He reminds me of the new forest I used to ride, they have exactly the same head.

Glad he was a good boy and he looks a nice weight so poo to the judge.

Oh well done Laura - Merryn has such a gorgeous face, and he looks really good, you have done a wonderful job keeping his weight off, and he was so well behaved - he really is a credit to you and you should have been coming home with a top frilly. :D xx

I love NFs - they are just fab all rounders!! In defence of the judge she did say he was 'tucked up' rather than too lean and they are two different things. We have one who is not a great traveller and she tends to 'tuck up' on the wagon - very frustrating.

Well done - is he broken to ride?

Thanks everyone. :D

Sprout thankyou, he was the best pony in the ring, we don't need ribbons to prove that ;) I only took him to see how he behaved anyway :D

minesadouble I did except he was tucked up but Judging by the other placings I think we would have been last anyway ;) He looked anarexic compared to the other horses even if he haddn't been tucked up. He is broken to ride, he's 10. We only realy do hacking at the mo. He's never been schooled and was obiece himself before he came to me. He finds working in the school very hard and is quiet stiff but we are working on his schooling :)

Aw merryn is lovely, he looks fab weight wise so well done even if the showing world isnt ready to accept it! however a pet peeve of mine is manes, try train it to the other side ;) well done again though for taking your well beahved pony out :)

Good luck with the schooling - you may need it ;) We have owned our NF for about 7 years, when we bought him he had hunted and done tetrathlon and that was his entire CV he DETESTED schooling - I think he just couldn't see the point of it lol! He's 18 now and we've still made very limited progress with the flatwork.

We forgive him though as he's a super hunter, brill X-country, almost as good when showjumping and he even manged to place at County Level as a WHP despite bing plain and having splints as his jumping was so fab.

He taught my eldest daughter almost everything he knows and transformed her from a slightly nervous rider to a girl happy to tackle 1m+ courses in a matter of months. She refused to sell him and continued to ride him even when hopelessly outgrown. Age and arthritis have slowed him down a little but he's still a super pony, loved and ridden by the whole family.

If you have half as much fun with yours as we have had with ours you're in for a great time :)

Thanks guys. :)

minesadouble Your forester looks fab :D And sounds like a saint to me :D Do you know his breeding? I'm not shore how far we will get with his schooling even without all his problems from being obiece he sounds very much like yours ;) He'd rather be out exploring the forest than in the school :p He's a saint with my OHs kids though and thats why we bought him after all. So can't complain realy. ;) :D
