A move possibly on the cards to Grimsby....so what is it like, what is the livery situation, riding etc & any other general info greatly appreciated :)

I'm from grimsby! It's nothing special really... :o but there are a few diy livery, yards, mainly on the outskirts of grimsby. I used to keep my old pony in a village called healing.

Other than that there are a couple of riding schools were you can pay for full livery etc but obviously a lot more expensive! The hacking in healing wasn't great. It's better in Laceby or Irby area.

Grimsby, erm, less said... but there are some nice villages in North Lincolnshire and some coastal villages where you can hack along the beach, if you can look a little further afield?

It would probably be a village/ outside of Grimsby where we would live but the work would be in the community around Grimsby hence wanting to know what it is like.

I work in a village near Grimsby. It's very pleasant. The villages along the Humber bank near Immingham can be quite industrial as they are close to the docks and it is an important area for trade. To the south west, as you head towards the Wolds and the Brocklesby estate there are some mighty fine villages and to the south, along the coast, once you get past Cleethorpes there are some reasonably cheap and pleasant villages along the north sea. You can get land there very reasonably priced.

I wouldn't want to live too close to Grimsby itself, personally, but as I say North Lincolnshire in general is a fabulous part of the world. The Louth area is lovely, around Binbrook is very nice and I don't mind the villages around Barrow upon Humber and that area.

You get a great choice between shopping in Grimsby or Scunthorpe - I'm nearer Scunthorpe. Neither town is what you'd call quaint and I think both have more than their fair share of 'characters' and 'drop outs'... but I will probably get shouted at now by someone who has lived in either town all their lives.

Grimsby isn't far from Cleethorpes which is the home of 'Pleasure Island', possibly the best antiquated theme park in the world!! :D

I don't know anything about the equi-scene anymore - I learned to ride as a child at Normanby Hall which was amazing (think Black Beauty-esque courtyard and stabling) but believe it closed down a good few years ago.

This ^^^ for sure ......

Oooooo i`ve just realised who you are .... I kept Coby where you are now and then moved next door but 1, and your YO has my lil dog Midge ;)

Grimsby is a dump. Immingham is a dump. The countryside around is quite nice.

But also this in a nutshell ^^ LMAO !!!!

I live near Caistor and I love it the people generally are friendly and the countryside beautiful it is rolling hills. Lots to do with horses and a 69 mile bridleway/ride in the woods round Market Rasen. I found a field for mine and it opens onto a bridleway so great for riding and have access locally to three big international equestrian centers so lots going on all the time could compete at something every week if not twice a week if I could afford it

Normanby has just moved down the road to Bagmoor farm

i'm from Scunthorpe, can't tell you much about Grimsby horse scene but here in Scunny and surrounding villages is nice

Oh I did not know that - I used to book myself in for a nice hack on weekend visits to my grandparents; had I known it had just moved I'd have continued going :) as said by someone else, a trip into town isn't exactly a highlight... That said, the range and surrounding shops on the old Tesco sight are deffo worth a bargain hunting visit!

Well worked out! Do you recognise the pony from the signature then?

Yes .... and the barn in your avatar ;)

This is a 20 sec video when we first moved on in 2010:

Caistor Equestrian center sposored by European money
Horse world formerly sponsored by european money
Kenwick hall sponsored and built by european money
Clinics and competition from local to BSJA available almost daily
Added advantage the the Race course is running a dressage series and Faldingworth run jumping and shows in the summer so lots to do. Not a million miles from Lincolnshire show ground so plenty hot competition there showing and eventing
Not that far from Belton house, Newark showground, Millhouses and numerous other ones. All about an Hour away and Burghley and Bramham within an hour and a half

Thanks :) .... He`s not like it now, he`s a total mud monster lol !! You have an amazing YO with a good natural way with keeping horses, she`s so lovely. Shame we can`t clone her.

Where was your sig pic taken (beautiful and green), Pm me if you prefer, i`m just racking my brains for where that could have been, was it down the canal front ? It looks a lovely bit of track that i never found, ha ha ha ha ha

I'm afraid I would class an "big international centre" as something like ArenaUK or Vale View... not Caistor Equestrian or Horse World!

Arena UK is only and hour and a bit away as is Sheepgate and there are others all within two hours but please yourself what I meant was funded by other countries which makes them international i my mind. If you dont like the area or feel is is a bad place you are of course entitled to your opinion. Mine is it is lovely around here and there is a huge amount of horsey activity at all levels. There are more horses per head of population in Lincolnshire than anywhere else in europe or at least that was the case a few years ago.
If your sport is endurance there is a lively group here and lots of rides. Driving is popular, and there are TREC competitions locally too You only have to look

She is lovely; she has taught me a lot about pony dieting.

It was taken when I first went to try Kes and I bought him from the Barnsley area so it's a section of the High Peak Trail. Not many trees around us, are there?

That surprises me! I'm not disputing it, only with all the arable land you don't seem to see many animals out at pasture at all around here, but then a lot of people have a couple acres tucked out of sight around the back of their house.

I have never seen such huge numbers of horses as in the Netherlands - they're crazy about horses there, they're everywhere you look. Stunners, too!

As it is per head of population it may be because there are not many people in lincolnshire and those that do live here a lot have horses and ponies

grimsby stinks of fish.
then again i only ever went to factories to pick loads of fish up from there so i might be narrow minded on this one.

Oh yes, there is nothing she doesn`t know about lami/sugars and cresty ponies ;) :D

Ah ok, that would explain it then, no hardly any tree lined paths where we are, hence why i was a bit flumoxed :D ... Kes is a handsome chap, i do love his colouring too.

Hi
The clue is in the name. It is grim and does smell rather fishy/fatty due to all the food factories, but get out of Grimsby and the villages are lovely and its very cheap to get somewhere with land. A lot of people keep their horses at home both in the Grimsby and Scunthorpe areas. I moved from Middlesbrough to Scunthorpe and still work in Scunthorpe though fortunately have now moved back home but I do like the area and houses are much cheaper than back home.

Ah, thank you. I learnt recently that he is a rabicano, which I had never heard of before.

What a load of rubbish! Yes on the fish docks maybe.... I live in grimsby and it's not the best place, I admit this I'd like to live elsewhere but christ it's not as bad as some people are making out! It has some very bad areas but what place doesn't? Oh and wench referring to it as a dump, that's fine but hope you're not referring to all the people as that too because I take pride in myself as many people do and we are not 'dumps' !!

So yeah, best living on the outskirts if you can its much nicer but if you are moving to grimsby, it's just like most towns so please don't be put off by all the negative comments!

I've coped fine all my life haha!
