So this is Sadie

We struggled with this distance for trot on Monday (someone was too busy spooking at the wind to listen to me) so she decided she would "fix" it herself. I was too slow with the camera to catch the very deliberate way she kicked it out of place 😂

We have our very first lesson booked for Monday, with the lady I actually wanted to do some schooling on her for me but she has broken her hand so can't ride 😬 poor girl has 2 nervous Nellie's and one semi confident person to deal with on a Bank Holiday morning so send her your best wishes please.

Buoyed with this impending success (we are trying optimism for once) I'm also provisionally booked on to a 2 day adult pony camp next weekend. It is so close to us that I will hack there and if anything goes wrong we can slink back to our yard on foot if necessary with no fuss 😂 if we manage a trot around a new arena with no meltdowns it will be well worth the £100!

I think she will be fine. She could never disappoint me, the meltdowns will probably be mine.

ETA: we did a lovely job of this pole arrangement last night. She can adjust her trot perfectly well if she wants to!

Love your posts smolmaus and what I love equally is how much you trust her and she you. That’s priceless 🥰
You can't be nice to me, I'll cry!!

I have been really thinking about that this week actually. She picks up on my tension so quickly even when I don't notice it. We were walking back to the field and I was sending a quick text about something really annoying and she spooked at me accidentally kicking a rock. When I put my phone away and relaxed my posture she was back to pootling along being mostly asleep. I will probably never get used to how perceptive she is 🥲

She feels me saying nice things about her Online and then needs to remind me that she can still be an idiot because she is still a horse.

Today was the second pedestrian I have accosted in passing to give us a lead down the road 😂 I am so lucky everyone is so nice to me.

I've just looked back to the very first photos you posted of her. What a transformation 😊. You have come a long way with her and she's clearly a very healthy happy girl now with a lovely cheeky personality too 💕
Well done and long may it continue.
ETA - and good to see your confidence improving too. Enjoy your lesson and the weekend camp with her

First ever lesson: ACHIEVED

I knew the instructor was nice, we have friends of friends but she was truly lovely and very kind. All three of us came away buzzing.

We got a full lap of canter at the end which is a first! I got a talking to about self belief which was very warranted, I am definitely the one holding us back, and another talking to about giving myself some credit which was very nice to hear. Sadie wasn't perfect, she was quite cheeky when asked to work for more than 5 mins at a time without a Good Girl Snack and for more than 30 mins at all but she did try her best when convinced she should. I am DELIGHTED. She got herself an apple puff pastry because only one human person wanted one. The OH will manage the other two 😂

I forgot to post about Pony Camp!

To summarise; she was epic. Full of adrenaline at her first time in a group lesson, first time in an indoor, never seen mirrors before, there was even a viewing gallery and she coped like an absolute pro, except for trying to pull my arms out. We did a flatwork lesson in the morning and then a little polework session in the afternoon and she tried SO HARD even though we were both knackered with cooked brains. Trotted over a little crosspole a few times, with a few stops and actually her first ever run out because as I said, my brain was cooked. All me. I learned so much, I need more lessons ASAP.

Day two we did a little showing day! We did a lovely little show piece with even a little gallop 😭 and then trotted round a teeny tiny jumping course that I very nearly chickened out of but again, she was fabulous once I got my head sorted. Bright coloured fences no problem, fillers no problem, mirrors and spectators not a problem! We did stop and walk over one or two to begin with but by fence 4 she got the picture and was flying! The last might have even been 40cm!! 😱

I've had my bum kicked very thoroughly. She is more than capable and such a fast learner and tried her little heart out. More lessons, I need to get my trailer test so I can get her out and about. The once lofty, dream goal of a little 60cm working hunter seems VERY achievable with the pony I was sat on those two days.
