So what are people using instead of grass pellets?

Don't know about rats, but JRTs like dry grass pellets... 🤣. I spilt some unsoaked ones on the feed room floor and they'd been cleared up before I came back with the dustpan and brush. Luckily not many, or she could have done herself a mischief.

I tried to buy equibeet sugarbeet last month and told no more till October. And that was from Titmuss who have managed to have a supply of Grasstastic.
I bought a sack today from our local ag store, and they had quite a few on the shelf. Maybe I need to buy a few - Ive got a TB on box rest and they are great for hiding meds in and keeping his gut hydrated.

I'm bumping this thread as I need to order some more grass pellets or equivalent, and Dengie grass pellets are still out of stock at Equisupermarket. I imagine that they are still in the course of production from the 2023 harvest.

OldNag, how long do the Wiesenflakes take to soak? I've been using the Wiesencobs which the horses love, but they need soaking for several hours even in summer. Something that is ready to feed in 5/10 mins would be better.
In this weather, I would say 10- if you use warm water it is quicker.

The cobs definitely take longer but I wouldn't have said no more than 30 mins. I always used to soak them in warm water, done in 15 mins tops that way. Makes a big difference!

Just had a look at EG - I remember when their grass pellets were under £10 and that was only about a year and a half ago!

If you're looking at Equisupermarket, there's a delivery charge built in. The walk in arm of the business, Titmuss charges £12.20.

However yes it's all gone up. A year ago Grasstastic was £7.99, autumn it was £9.99 then it went up to £11.70 which is what it is now.

I'm looking at EG's own website - they have grasstastic at 14.75 so hopefully if you're paying 11.70 it's also got some additional costs built in but when I was buying their grass pellets in the winter it seemed to be dependent on when the tack shop had bought the pellets - they were selling them at the price they bought them for and EG had the current price that they would then have to order in at as they had gone up since the tack shop had bought them if that makes even any vague sense!

Hopefully that is an inflated price and if not they may go back down again once we've had more grass cut 🤞

I was comparing Equisupermarket ay £18.99 and Titmuss at £12.20. The former includes 'free' delivery.

Titmuss have always been cheaper than the EG website, not sure how they do it and neither do other feed merchants in the area. It applies to other products.

The £11.70 was well before the shortage and I assume was to cover additional general costs that everyone is feeling. My Charnwood linseed has gone up from £18.99 to £25.30 in the same period

Thunderbrooks healthy herbal chaff ? All the horses on our yard really like it

The company seem to have a very bad reputation but the horses like the feed and
there is no shortage of supply
