So what does everyone feed their dogs?

Lexi is on Royal Canine Junior at the minute but im not sure what the best food is to feed I know my OH is considering Raw but im not so sure! Please let me know what is best as I am so undecisive! Her stomach seems to have settled down now think she is becoming a lot stronger in this area as she seems to be ok with puppy treat she has the markies are they any good she also has a denta rask or a denta stix twice a week for her teeth?

Just wondering if I am doing the right thing?

I am firmly with your OH on this one, all my dogs have been raw fed since 1998. I lost a lovely scruffy mutt to bowel cancer and it opened my mind enough to at least do some research, a bit of reading was all it took to convince me. I would never go back.
 
I've raw fed for the past 11 years. The boys I switch on to it when they were 4 years and 1 year old, Teagan and Skye were put on it as soon as they came home at 7 weeks old and Star was weaned onto it. I wouldn't go back either.
 
Scraps. So generally her saucepan has a mix of chicken bits, mince, some rice/potatoe and peas/carrots. Gets Butchers or something to top it up if dinner has been too tasty and we didn't leave her any. :D She also gets a large meaty bone every (usually) Sunday, when she doesn't get any other meals.

Ideally I would feed her raw but my mother goes OCD over clearing up after preparing our meat never mind feeding the dog raw!
 
Raw ,my 7 mth old switched at 4 months when I rehomed him.I ran out the other day and offered him dried he walked away in disgust.I lost my goldie to cancer and after investigation would never feed anything but raw.
You wouldnt feed a horse meat so why feed a dog by products from crops !!!!:D
 
My 2 are fed Autarky Summer and have sardines on it twice a week, they look very well on it.

I would love to feed them raw but until I can get another freezer they will have to wait.
 
Raw-switched the pups onto it at about 5 months, I think? The big dog also switched-took him a while to 'like' it but now he's doing his excited 360s at tea time again so I guess he's happy.

There's a thread on Royal Canin on here-from last week (will shut up about that now!)

I would avoid anything you can buy in the supermarket. Really will shut up now, bed time!
 
For a (normal :p) GSD, Arden Grange, DUCK or raw.
Skinners Field and Trial or Fish4Dogs as an alternative.

I would not be feeding Markies or Rasks, they are just like cheap sweeties for dogs, there is nothing in them. Dogs don't really need shop bought 'doggie' treats IMO, give her a nice raw bone or Nylabone product for her teeth or cooked chicken/hotdog slices for training with. Don't just give her treats for the sake of it, make her use her brain and get some obedience out of her then feed her for it :)
 
If your dog has a sensitive stomach then ditch those denta-thingies and the markies. Seriously. We once gave ours denta-thingies and EVERY one of them got the squirts. They were a xmas prezzie from someone (whose dog regularly gets anal gland issues, no surprise there then).

We feed Royal Canin (sorry but what supermarket sells it??), the 4300 energy (which you definately can't buy in a supermarket) and all our pups have been raised on RC Junior. Never ever had a problem. However, I will add that we feed kibble alongside raw meat and they (also puppies from about 8 weeks) get raw meaty bones at least once a week. Ours race in harness and we frequently win as well. This method works as we do at times need to 'live out a van' and can only take kibble.

I have, following posts on here, just ordered 4 bags of fish4dogs to try as I like the sound of what's in it. It is a fair bit lower in fat than what they are used to so it will be trialled whilst winding down from the running season and over the summer. As to if it will provide enough energy for running we will need to wait and see. We switched to RC as they weren't getting enough energy from other (also tried several other big named and expensive) food but the RC has worked for us so far. I am always open to new ideas but our pups will be staying on RC Junior + meat for now as it's always worked for us. They are now 14 weeks (our litter) and have never had even a hint of the squirts.

The only thing for teeth is meaty bones. They are free from your butcher as well!! Just avoid the big weight bearing ones. We tend to get lamb ribs / shoulders etc. Never cook them as that's when problems can happen. If you don't go to a butcher then chicken wings are good if your dog chews on them. Mine all swallow them whole!!
