OK, certain threads ;) this weekend have got me thinking....why do I come on HHO? People have been questioning other's motives for posting and I've been thinking about why I post/view....

1. I enjoy reading/looking at photos - don't always/often reply but it doesn't mean I didn't enjoy them;
2. I initially joined to ask for advice when my TB had peritonitis and received a broad spectrum of responses - it is a great place for sharing knowledge. In turn I posted a lengthy update after he recovered so it may be of help to others.
3. I occasionally post comp reports to update on progress/get feedback. Very rarely post pics as I am a 'work in progress' and get direct feedback in my lessons! I am also a lard ass :D and don't like viewing my pics (diet also a work in progress!)
4. If I can add some value to a post I will do, e.g. with past experiences etc.
5. I occasionally post pics of my horse/pony as I am really proud of them and think that they are incredibly beautiful :D but it typically on pic threads such as 'show me pics of your....'.

I am not the most prolific member on here by a long way but I value and enjoy my time lurking. I do think that you need to have the confidence to know what to listen to and what to ignore if you are going to post. I also try to never post anything to upset people - others have done it to me and it hurts so I wouldn't want to do that to anyone else - and certainly not from the other side of a computer screen.

So, that's a bit about my motivations for being on HHO....be interested to hear others.....

boredom when I'm not at the yard / doing other things

I like pictures

I'm nosy and want to know how people I like on here are getting on.

I enjoy sharing what's going on with Reggie and Al and have got some brilliant advice off people regarding their progress. I also like seeing what others are up to and seeing how well people are doing :D

I also lost my horse back in August 2010 and then went to uni, and it provides a link to the horsey world that I really miss when I'm not at home. I got lots of support when Cheeky was PTS through PMs and it cheered me up and helped me.

Finally, there are some brilliant people on here and I really respect them and enjoy chatting to them :D

I like to talk to other horsey people, I like to help others and often been helped here myself by very knowledgeable people, I take what advice I want and try not to upset people... also very nosey and like to look at photos :-)

I have a desk job so I spend a lot of time in front of the computer....

I think about horses, specifically my horses but also horses in general, most of my waking hours. HHO gives this a bit of a focus rather than me just staring into space day dreaming :o

I like looking at photos of other people's horses and hearing what they get up to. It's great that HHO members have a great variety of horses and things they do with them rather than everyone being focused on the same discipline. NL, CR and HF are equal favourites of mine.

It helps to know that other people go through the same things, have the same highs and lows, make the same mistakes etc.

Sometimes you get really really good advice just from reading other people's threads (heavy elbows and closing the back of your armpits have really transformed things for me after nearly 30 years of riding!).

When you're excited about events its nice to have a place to share :)

I like learning as much as I can from others.

I like contributing if I feel I can.

It's nice being in the company of people who love horses as much as I do.

I've been lurking for ages but decided to sign up because it seems like a friendly place. I don't know any knowledgeable horse people so this is the only place I learn new things.

lol you lot are such liars, none of you have admitted to how much you enjoy reading a good old dindong arguement;) i do!! sometimes the opinions can leave me :eek:or:confused: or :D .
Mostly i come on to read all the different opinions and advice, although HHO can be a bit of a minefield it is better than any library for info on any horsey aspect you can think of:)

Like someone else said, I'm basically nosey! :D

However, I have found this forum so very, very useful when buying H (my first horse at the grand old age of 50!), initial settling in problems and advice re tack etc. I honestly don't think I could have done it without you all - support and encouragement when things weren't going so well and congratulations when they were!

I look on here now to see who is having the same problems/experiences as me and to offer comments if I think they are relevant.

I like getting the polarised advice without having to look at several different sites, I like a good barney and to make an informed decision after :)

Plus it is a place I can be horsey geeky without the piss being taken! :)

Boredom, nosiness, advice, feedback, just for a laugh, I will admit to enjoying the contentious threads (there you go, Ibblebibble :D ) and there are always loads of new threads on here, in comparison to other fora, which have a much slower turnover.

I came on here the first time chasing a troll from another forum who was rather good at tugging at people's heartstrings and had moved on to extracting cash from posters to help her out in her entirely made up misfortunes. A couple of us just wanted to wise up posters on here.

Then I found my copyright photos were being used by another poster, which I dealt with privately, I'm not a professional 'tog though, it was a few I'd taken as fundraisers for a club.

Then I came back as another username which is the account I use now and I've made some good online companions and met several people from here in RL. I have also bought three horses from people I've met on here, sold one, and had two out as companions.

Now I come on mainly to see what's happening, while away a few hours when I'm not well, and look on in amazement at my fellow man.

I'm on a very small yard, so it's good to come on here and ask for opinions, or other peoples ideas and recommendations when you have a problem, be it a small niggle or something major.
Also as I work a lot from home, and don't know many people where I live, I like using Soapbox to make me feel a bit more connected to the world!
And yes, I do like reading some of the more controversial threads, but I don't like it when it gets personal.

It's a good place to ask for advice and then pick and choose which bits to follow ;) I also like seeing other peoples pics, as I have my own yard I don't have to contend with the bitchiness that can over run livery yards so I can come on here listen to the bitching and snarking and then go back to my ponies and my quiet yard and remember why I choose to stay there :D

As a returning riding i'm just using it to refresh my knowledge. It is surprising how much stuff I know.. but had forgotten I know iykwim.

On the whole, force of habit and something to do whilst I am having coffee and FB has been read. :o

All of the above. :D:D:D

I come on here for information, advice, support and sometimes just a really good giggle! I kid you not, some of the threads on here have had me literally crying with laughter. Hubby thinks I'm insane!

Do occasionally find some opinions a bit judgemental but that said it is really easy to mistake the tone of a written post. I love it on here and will never ever forget that without the good old Barefoot Taliban I wouldn't have a sound riding horse right now.

So it looks like you're all stuck with me lol! ;)

Its always great fun watching an argument pan out obviously ;) , but I mainly come on to find advice or opinions. I don't really know many horsey people as I had always kept myself to myself at current yard, so its nice having somewhere where I can talk to people with a common interest.

- To show off Neddy!
- To see other people showing off their ponios.
- Sometimes an argument, unless it's far too upsetting or cringe worthy.
- Information/help.
- See how everyone is.

I like the humour, the support, the different opinions which challenge my own thinking, the competition reports and being around people who are joined by one common cause but who are also very individual. I wish I contributed more but usually threads move so fast all I could offer would be a 'me too' - so unless I get into a thread right at the beginning instead I just nod in agreement at my screen :o

I was becoming a 'Twitter widow' so thought I would play my OH at his own game and ignore that he was in the room.
Great company on here though!!

I come on to get a horsey fix as I don't have my own. I try to learn (sometimes its hard to sift the wheat from the chaff though).

I also enjoy the pics and use the site as a work-avoidance tool. :)

Generally I don't comment as often I don't feel I have anything useful to contribute.
