We have ended up with an extra dog in our kennel as of this morning and its still there...

Basically there is a house down the road with a mongrel type which is always out, even when they arent there, they havent got a fence so the dog basically has the roam of the place, and the road.

Its a fast straight bit of road and on many occasion ive had doggy bounce in and out of the garden onto the tarmac as ive driven past, its unnerving and irritating that someone doent take their dogs life so seriously but its a quiet little village so we just kept shtum.

Anyway this morning OH had to drive past a couple of times and nearly hit it, and then an hour later caught it about quarter of a mile away from its home.

Hes picked it up and tried the house, nobody is home. So hes bunged it in a spare kennel at ours. his boss told him its always out and that hed just chuck it back at the house but OH wont, because if the poor thing got hit by a car he would feel responsible.

Well this was this morning, dog is still here... OHs gone back to see if anyones home and they arent..

What would you do..?

we dont have a dog warden covering here, or so i have been told. and i dont really want to hand it over the police or anything seeing as i know where it lives and such.

Its awkward because i have had words with these people before as they were letting their dog run into our garden and i wasnt amused (neither was the dog or the chickens), and to be fair shes stopped walking the dog past the house (its never on a lead, but she is always carrying one?) so i dont want to be a pain in the ass neighbour.

Not sure wether to bed it down tonight, feed it and see wether they turn up (i would be going crazy with fear) or take a bowl of water and tether it back at their house (i have an old collar and long line knocking about) with a note.

I'd keep it for a couple of days and see if they miss it or come looking.

If not I would rehome it out of the village.

But then I don't have any time at all for irresponsible owners.
