It's a bit depressing, isn't it! In my case I have a happy reason - 16 weeks pregnant - but there are days when I really just want to get on board. I won't; I had a miscarriage in August, which wasn't horse related, but I'm not taking any risks. But it is frustrating. My lovely 4 yo is now on at least 6 months break. It won't do him any harm to have time off as he is a very big lad (17.1) and it'll let him grow. Still miss it though.

So who else is on box rest?
 
Me! Due to injury- got trodden on just before Christmas- been told it will be another 6 weeks before I have enough muscle mobility and strength in my calf to ride 'effectively'. :(

Ouch hope that gets better soon.

I ain't but congrats to you nudibranch hope the pregnancy goes well for you.
 
Me for the past 18 months! First with my illness now the horse. Starting to think I'd be better of giving up as I'm not even sure ill be fit to restart my mare.

Due to frozen shoulder related to fall nearly a year ago.
Though effectively been on enforced box rest due to no suitable horse for 3 years. Was hoping to find nice school master this year but that's off the cards for now

I'm *technically* not meant to be ridding, but have popped on a few times.

I had glandular fever in August so couldn't ride for a few months until that's out of my system.
And since then I've had a back problem being sorted and now am getting my knee investigated for a possible tear/damage to it. I've still hopped on a few times recently though!

Congrats Nudibranch, and I hope everyone else heals up ok and is able to return to it soon!
 
Congratulations! Hope all goes well. I'm back on board yesterday after 3 months off (work, mostly, then a non-horse related fall and torn calf), and now I feel like I need another 3 months to recover from that. Good to be back, 'tho.

Broke my back in 2011 and didnt let it heal properly (not completely my fault 2 sets of xrays i was not it was NOT broken to find out later it was)
Broke it again in 2013, did 13 months off work (back in the saddle (very gently) in 9 weeks) decided to sell said horse and she left october 14 i replaced her with a yearling colt in november 14 who i will be backing later this year! So other than the 'odd sit' i haven't ridden properly for 14 months to give my back a real time to rest, adjust to my working life and later this year be able to cope with me backing the boy!
 
I am, kind of. My instructor is on holiday and I'm at the stage where I need instruction and guidance, my pony is a youngster and he's quick to learn (both good and bad!). We're doing ground work and long reining and I've tootled around the yard on him, but constructive riding work will wait until she's back at the end of the month. Prior to that I had 3 weeks off following an operation.
 
Not completely off (consultant realised a total ban would be resisted) but under instructions to be careful and take things easy as I have a knee injury. I'm on the waiting list for an op to fix it but who knows when that will happen so can't plan at all for 2016.

As far as I can see riding uses the same muscles as the special exercises my physio has given me and I'm only doing light work.
 
Doc said I wasn't supposed to due to broken nose being put back in place but I did today - rode and lead horses for their first time, on the roads to get them home. Oops. :D :)
 
ME iv had surgery for cervical cancer and I'm dieing to get back on board, results are this wed so that will decide if I can get back in the saddle in 3 weeks time ( after my 6 week check) or if I go onto radiotherpy which will put me out of riding for a while again.
 
Me. Horse is irrevocably broken. I have a very dodgy pelvis (thanks to fall from sharp, quirky boy). Can't afford two. Nothing to ride. I am very much missing it.

Small child, baby and livery horses to sort out means that I just don't have the time. I'm lucky if baby naps for 40 mins total during the day, so my only time off is after they are both in bed, and that is usually spent catching up on house stuff; I'm knackered! I'll get more time once baby is old enough for nursery, but until then its just a couple of times a year. Pony doesn't seem to mind being a field object though :)

I'm field sound so have been put in the paddock as a lawn mower. Although I'd be the nutty tb type that doesn't 'do' retirement so it's buted up and hacked a couple days a week!

Me. My wonderful horse if a lifetime/longtime is off due to a stable injury. She's fluffy, out in the field and is a girl in waiting for the spring and her incoming pregnancy so it'll be a couple of years in total!

I've been feeling very sorry for myself as I've put my lorry up for sale and given up my livery space. A bit drastic given all the good offers I've had of horses to ride but my heart just isn't in it.

Last night I took an anti depressant and cried a lot, how disgusting is that after reading thatsmygirls post. I have nothing to complain about, I need to get back up and get on and be grateful!!
 
Me. 5 months since my lovely mare's colic surgery and complicated recovery which is ongoing. (Fingers crossed she's doing well though)
I'm stopping moaning about it though after reading these brave stories and very best wishes to you all x
 
I have been because horse is preggers. What with the weather I've been enjoying the break to be honest. Got back on board this weekend,
Lesson on a PSG horse on Saturday, and hacked out friends 3* horse for best part of 2 hours yesterday.
Can barely walk today!!!
 
My horse accidently kicked me and broke my arm due to him feeling too fresh while on box rest. Which ended up being complicated because I had broken my arm before and already had a plate in it, so i needed the old plate took out and a new one put in. most annoying thing is I could have started bringing him back in to work 2 months ago if I hadnt broke it. He was meant to have 3 months off with his hock injury but has had double that so far and my arm is still not completely healed. I'm so bored. He doesn't mind too much though haha
 
Me too! See Dumbfounded..... thread in Vet section. I am getting expert in groundwork though. took him for a long walk through the forest and hills today. Sigh.... Problem with me is that my back suffers terribly when I don't ride. I NEED to ride to keep it working properly. Getting twinges now. Last ride was end Nov 2015. HATE this!!!!! No time to ride something else though because all my time is taken up working in hand and groundwork with the troublesome TB..
 
Although I have to say I feel lucky compared to those poor souls who are injured and can't ride. Had my fair share of that! And well done to OP on the baby and good luck!!!
 
I have been out of action for the last 3 months - got charged by a cow when I was walking one of my dogs, sent flying ... wrecked my already knackered knee!
Started lunging my boy last week to get his head back in steady work mode and hope to try and have a sit this week ..... gales, floods, ice etc permitting!
 
Yes me, I've got my little retired pony but no time/money for a riding horse or even a share. I miss it hugely and find it difficult not to feel jealous when I see people going out for Sunday hacks or schooling, but I've got a lot of good things going on in my life at the moment and I wouldn't swap my pony for the world so the green-eyed monster soon passes.
 
Me! I'm also pregnant - 31 weeks now and feeling like I'm going to pop! My pony is pregnant too, due 3 weeks after me (that wasn't well planned, was it!) Luckily she is on foaling livery so my experienced YO will take care of her. I'm hoping to manage to see the foal being born, all going well my baby will be born and I can pop him/her in the sling and watch from the sidelines! Missing riding but excited about foalie! (And baby of course!)
 
Me! And I'm missing it like crazy.
I can't ride for another 2 weeks apparently, due to appendix op before Christmas. However also have exams and then am off on hols so will be end of January before I will be riding! :(
 
Me too. I lost my mare, Lady Gascoyne, in February and couldn't really face riding for a while.

I was given a filly in June but she's still at the stud in Denmark, growing up slowly. Then I moved to New Zealand.

I can't commit to buying a horse just yet, we don't know how long we will be here. I'm still holding out hope that we will be back in the UK in a few years- just in time to back my baby.

It's been nearly a full year since I've ridden properly 😭
