So who else is on an enforced break from riding?

Me too! Had my new horse a month next week. Mum came off and broke 2 vertebrae and her sternum on Sunday! All my time currently spent at the hospital waiting to hear if they will operate, I'm mentally exhausted

Me but that's only because my horse was pts last year and no enthusiasm to go looking for another, horse shopping is soul destroying.

Me because I can't get there in the evenings due to the flooding (long trip, already doing mornings). I had my horse's shoes taken off last night and consoled myself with drawing up a schooling plan for when our bridge finally reopens.

There are some happy but also some very sad/painful stories on here so best wishes to anyone who is struggling with the later!

Starzaan, how did you end up concussed? I must have missed that.

I kind of am- I have so much work to do currently (assignments, case studies, revision plus actual full time work) that I have not enough hours in the day.

Red isn't complaining though, he's rather too well, full of himself, unclipped and muddy! I'm hoping things will ease around next month, if they do, will be getting somebody out to clip (I don't ride even when I am able to currently because he was so sweaty last time I rode but I don't ride enough to clip), and then bring him back up to fitness. Well, that's the plan...

I haven't ridden for over a year now, gave up as just wasn't feeling very well and the weather wasn't great then in July last year I was rushed into hospital with pneumonia and septicaemia and was very ill. It would seem that I had been ill for some time that just got worse and worse until I ended up in hospital. I was told it would take a good six months to get back to normal and I do feel really well now but the weather is so wet I have decided to wait until spring.

Me. Knackered my knee end of 2014, had surgery and 6 months off riding, mare went lame when I was off and was PTS in March 2015. Have ridden once since then but can't bring myself to look for a share/ ride others/ buy another - not ready yet. Oh and have put on approximately 20 billion stones since I lost her and wouldn't subject any horse to me currently even if I did want to ride!

Sort-of me... My school has disintegrated into slippy, slidey deep mush (full story www.cheapmanege.weebly.com) & my horse is now showing signs of wanting to crack on a bit (KS surgery in June 2015) but I can't afford to fix my school, so we have to have a careful 10-15 min squelch about per day & it is frustrating beyond belief. So near, yet so far...and having read everyone else's posts, I am going to try & be a bit more grateful for what I CAN do...

OP many congratulations on the bump hope all goes well for you.

I am on Box Rest

Having been Boxing Day run over by 17.1hh ginger git. Now sporting well compression bandaged leg with cellulitis in it. Just got back from clinic. Had to spend Fri night Sat morning in A&E again as had possible DVT in the leg. Scans yesterday clear but cellulitis in the leg is major. Antibiotics and now the pressure bandage to try and get the very large swelling to reduce. Having to stay off my feet as much as possible so no horses.
Day time TV is pants but am keeping hands busy knitting. Have now a stash of child/baby clothes to take to our local craft selling shop.

Everyone heal well.

Me!! I gave up my loan last June after being diagnosed with cervical cancer. I havent really ridden since summer 14.No way could i have juggled a baby and horse plus 2 older kids during chemo/ radiotherpy. All treatment done and so far so good 4 months later. I'm longing to get back to what I know and start enjoying life again

Me - sort of. Horse has PSD and bone bruise and has been off since the beginning of October. My lovely friend lets me ride her horse most weeks which helps a lot, although he's not very fit so sessions are short and sweet!
Feel i've got a lot to be thankful for - just before my horse went lame I moved livery yards and the new yard have been amazing with him, although he cribs, has to be constantly monitored to make sure he's not too hot and is obviously very messy having on box rest for almost 3 months. He has been fabulous too - really good in his stable and generally very chilled to walk out, although we've had the odd moment! He's even coped with his 'paddock rest' period being curtailed by the horrendously wet weather.
Am also very lucky that I work for myself so I can pop to the yard and keep him entertained with grooming, massage etc in the daytime and walk him out when the weather's at its best, and that my husband puts up with me fretting about my horse all the time! :D
