Soap's Newbury County Show report - He only went and bloomin' WON!!!!!!!!!!!

Well done. Another nice bit is that in a few weeks you will get a cheque for more money from Newbury Show as there is their prize money as well as the ROR stuff.

Really?????? I was a bit baffled by the prizes as in the schedule it says....

'A Jacket and rug will be presented to the winners of retrained racehorse classes and to the best veteran, kindly donated by RoR/Tattersalls/SEIB'

and we got a voucher for the jacket I have to send off, and Tesco vouchers which I guess are replacing the rug, makes sense. My god if we do also get a cheque posted on then we won £35!!!!!!!!! Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeke :) :)

This just gets better and better :)

Bloomin' brilliant!! You did what I tried to do last year, but judge wouldn't even gallop mine after she saw him bucking all the way down the long side!!

Well done you and Soap :)

Chloe - I've had a fab idea. Would you like to borrow/have my browband? It's a lucky one (won twice and third once in its only 3 outings) and the perfect colour - green, gold and white). It looks lovely with a green and white spotted tie!!!

If you want it you are welcome to it :D, but you can't have the matching lorry - it's not mine! ;).

That sounds fab! Thank you. :) You have impeccable taste in browbands btw. Think I need to track down the owner of that lorry too! ;)

If it's lucky and has been out competing already then that's deffo going to seal the deal! :) The winner of the champs wins £2500!!!!!!!!

You know what you're on about GB when it comes to showing so I have a Q for you. All the other horses in the class wore jazzy browbands, but this is what the ROR sites says about dress code....

10. What is the recommended dress in the RoR Showing Classes?

a) Bowler hat for men, hunting cap for woman. Properly approved ASTM/SE1 with fitted chin strap harness for Retrained Racehorse Challenge jumping classes MUST be worn. Any suitable hard hat is allowed in the Show Series Classes.

b) For Hack and Riding Horse types, navy jacket and coloured browband. For Hunter types, tweed jackets and plain browbands.

c) Plain fawn or buff coloured breeches - not white.

d) Plain black or brown boots.

e) Any form of leather or string gloves.

f) Plain malacca or leather cane, not to exceed 32" . No schooling or cutting whips.

g) Collar and tie.

h) Ordinary shirt.

i) No earrings to be worn.

RECOMMENDATIONS FOR DRESS FOR THE HICKSTEAD FINAL

In the morning the same as above. In the evening black or blue hunting coat with close fitting black riding trousers with ordinary collar and tie or cravat.

11. What is the recommended turnout for my ex-racehorse in the RoR Showing Classes?

a) Manes should be plaited.

b) Tails pulled or plaited

c) Heels trimmed

d) Any suitable bridle, except in Retrained Racehorse Classes where horses should have ordinary snaffle, double bridle or 3 ring gag.

e) Coloured browbands for Hack types. Plain for Hunters and Riding Horses.

Is Soap a hack hunter or riding type?.... There were peeps in tweed with jazzy bbs, is that a sort of unwritten rule that it's ok?....

I nearly wet myself reading that report, it was so bloomin funny! Well done you and i can just imagine blagging your way through....LOL

Really well done though that is such a fantastic result and so pleased you found out about the prize money, you'll get a lovely cheque through the post!! The goodies are great too!

You've done fab with Soap and sometimes it is the boost we need for it to be recognised, so good for you!

I'm glad you're going to the Champs, it'll be such a great experience! ;-))))

WOOHOO What a complete pair of superstars you two are!! Absolutely awesome result Chloe and clever Soap! :D I'll definitely be watching you at Hickstead next year! :D

He would be a riding horse type so blingy browband. Yes, I think that the jacket (it is a waistcoat) replaces the jacket/rug (had a rug in the past for winning but think that is in the schedule by mistake) and generally you still get the show prize money as well, so all in all they are "a good little earner".

Well done you! I was at Newbury on Saturday (not competing!) and didn't get to see your class - but I wish I had now! Sounds like it must have been real honest judging!

The dark art of showing! Not sure what the ROR guidelines say (haven't scrolled back to them but)

Hunter : tweed, no bling whatsoever
Riding horse : tweed, slightly blingy browband
Hack : navy, more blingy

Black has no place!

Bling nothing as much as show pony bling - no scrunchies or pig tails with ribbons (ha ha)

You will be fine with tweed and minor bling!

To be honest, there is quite a mixture in the final of what people are wearing/horses are wearing etc.

Oh yes, and at the final you get a finalists rosette and another jacket regardless of placing.

That's amazing chloe!!!!!!!!!! Huge well done!!!!!

Your report made me laugh aloud, especially when everyone else started getting off and you had no idea!!! Sounds like me the one time i went showing, had no clue at all!!

Well done to you, your Mum and Soap! You'll need to upgrade the bucket to a basket for Hickstead :p

Can I ask you how the judge rode? Have been told to take Wilberforce-Horse to Lincolnshire county next year for the RoR classes, but he's only tiny and a bit of a wuss so don't want to let a judge get on him who's going to be mean and too big for him because he'll try and hide :o
