Please could I have any recommendations for an ultra soft/silky midge rug or fly rug with belly flap....
I have a ridiculously sensitive horse who loathes midges, doesn't have sweet itch as such, but comes up in bumps from their bites..... and doesn't tolerate flies that well either!
However he also hates anything that pulls at his rather fine haired coat....and once he has decided he is not happy, he rolls and rolls and then just gallops himself into a stupid hot frenzy!
So close weave not mesh...and as cool as possible. He doesn't trash rugs, so can be lightweight. He hates sheepskin numnahs too!
I've tried a Boett....too hot then starts rolling/galloping
an Amigo bug buster... the mesh pulls at his coat...same response
an amigo Mio...best so far, but still reacts.
NO rug....Ok if I get the timing/weather right, but frequently not possible!
Fly sprays etc makes no difference with the exception of Killitch which helps a little.
Any rug recommendations gratefully received before I give up!!! If I bring him in, even on his own, he just chills out and eats hay....I keep telling him he is a horse not a prima donna, and summer/grass turnout is supposed to be good for him!!!
I've tried all times of day/night.
In the winter he has all weather turnout and is as happy as larry for hours!
